How long have you banked with them?: over 20yrs.
Why do you bank with them?: promo's high interest rates
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: promo high interest rates
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Customer Service Rep get rating of 0 or 1. spoke with 3-4 reps and 1 supervisor concerning funds on hold. I get based on your rating holds are put anything over $10k or $5k and last everything gets a hold from 5 to 8 business days. The workers have a strong accent and probably working from home because I get distorted and cracking sounds. it is difficult to understand and i have to ask the person to repeat themselves more then once to get what they are saying. I have been with Tangerine for over 30yrs and they didn't have restrictions in the beginning but are adding/changing rules on a weekly bases depending on who answers the phone.
General comments: if i had a choice i would close my account but i have too many accounts linked to this account. I will have to move my accounts slowly and finally close it given time.

How long have you banked with them?: 20 years plus.
Why do you bank with them?: Periodic excellent promotions.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: I have been with Tangerine (previously ING) for many years. It used to be amazing before Scotia took them over.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Customer service - Wait times are often quite terrible. Regular interest rates are big bank levels (low)
General comments: Tangerine is weird to deal with. Their regular interest rates are fairly mundane, then they periodically have excellent promotions, but often only to the select. If I call in (which often involves a long wait) and say I am moving money out they then offer an improved rate. Why not just offer good rates to everyone?? Strange company.

Why do you bank with them?: Higher interest on savings accounts.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Higher interest on savings accounts.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: • I wanted to use Tangerine Bank to deposit funds from my business, however Tangerine informs me that Business account users will not be able to download their transactions like other business banks allow. To not allow this basic function is clearly a deficiency in their service offering, so Tangerine won’t work as an account for any of funds from my business. • Make it easier to talk to support - phone queues can be over a half-hour waiting on the phone. • Allow users to move funds at will. As it is Tangerine says you must talk to them, by waiting on phone for what can be a very long time, to move larger amounts.
General comments: Their online banking UI is antiquated. They could do better if they just copied what the larger Canadian banks do with their UI.

Why do you bank with them?: Had an account with Simplii but was subjected to fraud and I was forced to close it so I opened this account with Tangerine, BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: No fees, that is it.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Policy against holds on deposits. I deposit a cheque for under $10 and there's a hold placed on it. I regularly made cash deposits in my previous account and if it was over $500 there was a hold which was reasonable but this crap with placing a hold on all amounts is going to cause my account to be in the negative on a regular basis and when (not if but when) any preauthorized payments come out I'm afraid I am going to be charged excessive late fees as well as nsf fees as well as ruin my credit. When I phoned to find out when the hold would be removed the employee I spoke with had no idea when the hold would be removed and there was nothing she would do to assist.
General comments: This account will be closed in less than a week because I refuse to be treated like a piece of crap.

General comments: Tangerine opened a Savings Account in my name when I applied for Credit Card Just received mail from Tangerine which was supposed to be their Money Back Credit Card and now I find they instead opened a Savings Account in my name. I am livid. How is it even possible for them to do that when I did not provide my SIN number in the credit card application (what they legally need to open a Savings Account in Canada) and they have one credit card option which is the one I applied for? I am ready to cancel my credit card which I am guessing has been created but am hesitant knowing that it will temporarily tarnish my credit. I do not know how a financial institution can mess up this hard. I was also considering opening a Savings Account with them in the next few months with a friend's Orange Pass but definitely do not want to be a customer in any capacity with them going forward.

How long have you banked with them?: Since 2012
Why do you bank with them?: Initially I switched to Tangerine because I was seriously upset with Scotiabank service at my branch. Ironically, Tang later became a Scotia subsidiary. Tangerine is my main internet bank: I keep most of my funds with it and link my accounts from other banks to Tangerine for EFT. I find fees low or none and services good enough not to look for some other bank to switch to. I do open accounts at other banks when they offer very attractive promo rates, but I always come back with my money to Tangerine when those promo rates end.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Whoever did process flow for banking activities at Tangerine deserves praise. Everything can be done through their Web site and very conveniently. Other banks might do one or two things better, but I haven't found a bank that will do all things well. Examples: 1)I just bought 1 year RRSP GIC at a different Internet bank. I see it in my account on their web site, but not maturity date, not interest. To change maturity options on that GIC I will have to phone that bank customer service. With Tang, I can do all that from their Web site. 2) Same Internet bank, to transfer money from RRSP Savings account to Savings I will have to print and fill a form from their web site and mail it (!!??) to their main office in downtown Toronto. I also have RRSP Savings account at one of top 5 Canadian banks. I just found that to move money from RRSP Savings account to regular checking account I will have to visit branch in person. With Tangerine, I can move money from RRSP Savings to non-registered Savings account through their Web site as I pleased. 3) At different Internet bank, to link an external bank account for EFT I have to mail void check by regular mail to their head office and wait for that request to be processed. No checkbook - no luck. With Tangerine, I can enter all info on theri Web site, which works even for linking bank accounts from banks that do not offer checkbooks. 4) An Internet bank (other than Tangerine) just offered very attractive promo interest on their Savings account. I enrolled, but I can't see on their web site if my enrollment was successfull. Finally, a week later I've got email confirmation. Their Web site has no way to reflect this promo. I enrolled in promo interest offer with Tangerine - everything is there under Account Details: when promo rate was applied, when will promo period be over. Of course, I also like the fact they offer no-fee checking account. I like them offering same rates for RRSP, TFSA and non-registered savings accounts and GICs. That is honest and fair approach. Some other banks assume, for some reason, that if I trusted them with my RRSP funds, they could offer me much worse interest rates on those. The big bank I am moving my RRSP money from currently offers RRSP Savings account with the rate 12 times smaller than their regular Savings account. No, I am not making it up. Tangerine introduced cashback credit card and I like it, too. Some other cards these days might offer higher cashback %%, but with Tangerine it is no annual fee card and cashback automatically deposited to my Savings account monthly. Even if it is $1. I have cashback credit card from another bank, to redeem there I have to earn at least $25 in cashback.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: I wish they would offer free Interac e-transfers. If not unlimited, at least first 5-10 monthly. They are very behind with that comparing to other banks. I also wish they would allow to link more than three external bank accounts for EFT.
General comments: If you want services of Internet bank where you can do all regular banking activites through their Web site, where you have access to all information on your accounts, GICs, etc. - consider Tangerine.

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Keep you're promises when it comes to client offers
General comments: They don't charge fees, which is fine, but their service is horrible. They offer you programs but when you enroll, they don't fulfill there part and don't communicate why they don't do it. I am pulling my savings out of there and moving it to another bank, and I'd never recommend them to anyone. If you are thinking of opening an account with them, stop don't do it.

How long have you banked with them?: Just under a year.
Why do you bank with them?: I am about to cancel my account. Originally to save up money for projects and vacation.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: I don't.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Much better customer service
General comments: I opened an account hoping to use it to save some cash for project and vacations. I had a couple of deposits from e-transfers and they decided to hold it for what they called variance of information. Initially they held my whole account ($3000). Once I called and had to talk to 3 people they released the money previous to the e-transfers. The transfers were for $200 each and inside of Canada. Money transferred to me from friends for other legitimate banking institutions. No red flags should have come up. Their security department was increasingly useless and could give me no real reason for this hold and even after a month they still hold it. In fact they even told me they didn't have to be nice to me since they are not customer service. I would never recommend this company to hold on to my dirty dishes never mind money. This new era of full digital banks like Tangerine has more authority and can do as they please with your money. if they feel like a random audit then your money is frozen until they determine they will let it go. At this stage the bank (i use the term loosely) is telling they can keep my money till the end of May 2018 then they have to release it. If your thinking about banking with them run away screaming as they will exploit your money for there ends but they are not really there for you.

How long have you banked with them?: 3 Years
Why do you bank with them?: I used to get fantastic service, high interest rates and easy access to my funds when it was ING but now that it's "Tangerine" or soon to be "Orange" it's the complete opposite
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: I like that there are options so that I can get out of this nightmare of a financial institution
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Where to start? Customer service is rude, unhelpful and consistently have to call to correct issues. I receive multiple answers to the same question contradicting the way things work in profiles and accounts. Careless customer service agents make errors and don't care very much that you close accounts. They're just doing a job and not worried about the consequences of poor service and lack of assisting.
General comments: You have a choice. Choose something else. Don't pick a bank that holds your money and makes it impossible to get the right information so that you can access it. If anything, use them for their high interest savings and leave your daily banking to an established major brand that actually has a branch you can speak to someone.

Why do you bank with them?: High Interest Rate (Promotional 6months is 3X their regular interest rates)
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Very nice user interface on both web and mobile app
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Compared to Scotiabank (which is their parent company), they have long holds on deposits and transfers.
General comments: Great bank if you want to short-term "sit" your money in a high interest savings account without the constraints of a GIC.

How long have you banked with them?: Since 2001.
Why do you bank with them?: Excellent 24-hour telephone service, almost never an error or misunderstanding, sometimes good interest
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: 24-hour telephone service, few fees, good statements mailed
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: stop playing interest games! Allow non-online banking for savings accounts. The 3-5 week time to transfer RRSP and TFSA deposits is completely unacceptable - and they pay no interest during that time!
General comments: They've been all downhill since BNS took over... they used to give everyone the same good interest rate regardless of deposit size or activity. They used to have no fees other than default penalties.

How long have you banked with them?: Few weeks
Why do you bank with them?: To compare with President's Choice
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Convenient web site.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Unfair penalties and hidden fees
General comments: BEWARE!!! Having been a long-time President’s Choice client, I decided to give Tangerine a try to see how well it compared. Initially, I had no problem. As a physically handicapped person, I make use of the cell phone deposit system. Occasionally, the image is not clear enough and I get an immediate note to re-submit which is no problem. My last deposit was accepted and I received an email to confirm that the amount was in my account. My online balance showed this too. I immediately used some of the funds. Next day, I received an email to say that the image was not clear enough and the full amount of the cheque was deducted from my balance. I was now in arrears and a penalty of $25 was imposed. It is transparently clear what is happening – it is a quick and easy way for Bank to make an “error”then charge me for its mistake and so make money at my expense. So this is a warning – stay away from Tangerine! They are not to be trusted. Use Presidents’s Choice. I have not had a problem in 15 years!

How long have you banked with them?: Eighteen months
Why do you bank with them?: I like the convenience of online banking
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Transactions are updated more timely that traditional banks.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: The communication to resolve banking issues timely. For example, I relocated and attempted to effect this change online. For whatever reason my account was frozen pending verification of the address change. After sending two faxes and an email, no one in "Tangerine" can definitively tell me if any of the documentation received satisfies the organization's requirements. Meanwhile, for the past five working days I do not have access to any of the accounts of my wife and or myself. This is abysmal customer service.
General comments: Overall the banking experience with "Tangerine" has been good. However, this five day ordeal (that is still unresolved)has eroded the accumulated goodwill, to the point that it is now in overdraft.

I had to beg from friends to get money when I had over $50,000 in TAngerine (Scotiabank) formerly a good bank ING. Right now after 8 months I have access to one of my two accounts. Tangerine even appeared at the time not to be in compliance with the bank act but there is no mechanizism for dealing with this. as there is no penalties on the bank. What one has here is a Goliath crushing David with government help.

What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: The interest rates on the TFSA and savings accounts.
General comments: When I saw that Tangerine had lowered their interest rates once again, (it is at an abysmal 1.05% as of February 3rd) I have decided that I am done with this bank. Tangerine (Scotiabank) sneakily lowered it during the TFSA promotional rate. They use to be great when it was called ING, now its like any other of 5 big banks of Canada. Thanks Scotiabank...

General comments: Nothing separates Tangerine from the rest of the large banks. Their interest rates are lack luster compared to some of their competitors. They are no different than the Big 5 and I will be reducing the amount of deposits I have with Tangerine.

How long have you banked with them?: Since April 2011.
Why do you bank with them?: High interest rates but they have since lowered their rates.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: I like the User interface.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Interest rates not comparable with other Credit Unions and they have cut down the rate on my Tfsa from 2% to 1.35%. Outsourced call centers to India which pressure you make a deposit in their thick accent. Fees have risen in recent years.
General comments: Transferring Tangerine account to people trust Tfsa.

How long have you banked with them?: One year
Why do you bank with them?: Initially interest rates were very good as well as incentive money to open accounts but now it is the convenience and ease of use.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Easy to use. Low or no fees. Have called for help twice and customer service was friendly and helpful.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Interest rates
General comments: I am much happier with the daily banking services at Tangerine than I was at the brick and mortar banks. I also have not received that annoying annual request message that I received from traditional banks trying to capture my RRSP and investment business. I had to invest an hour or two of my working hours to listen to the representative tell me that if they work very hard and moved my money to their porfolios, I would make exactly the same amount of money.

Why do you bank with them?: Initially, low rates
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Bad, getting worse
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Pretty much every facet of the bank!
General comments: ING was great! I loved it. But since the takeover by ING, every single reason of why I joined ING in the first place is either getting taken away, negated or ruined. What I used to love about ING is slowly deteriorating and making this bank a hassle to do anything with which is becoming more than it's worth.

Why do you bank with them?: Past tense... they HAD the best interest rates.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Very easy user interface, transfers and paperless.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Interest rates. ING Direct was competitive, interesting and well above the average. Tangerine is nothing more than Scotiabank branded in orange.
General comments: Since the acquisition by Scotiabank, their rates have plummeted to bare minimums to keep them in line with the other big banks. Shop around, you'll fine much better rates elsewhere, Tangerine is no longer "save your money", its "we're greedy please give us your money".

How long have you banked with them?: Since 1999
Why do you bank with them?: Lived the way they operate
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Services, Friendly Customer Service, Whoops Protection
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Free Cheques to match Presidents Choice Financial they offer the first 50 for free then charge 12.50 for the next order of 50. Stay with the exchange network to be able to use credit union and National Bank Atm's. They are dropping the agreement with Exchange Network going with Scotia Atm's problem is I live in a rural area that only has a credit Union Atm the Scotiabank in town does not have a ATM.
General comments: Hope Scotia does not keep lowering Interest rates and offers that ING was great in offer to customers. Would of been nice to consult Customers about the name change offer a prize as a GIC to customers for coming up with a better name than Tangerine that they paid a Agency to come up with. Many do not take the name as serious or professional have even had Scotia staff make comments that they could of come up with a better name like ING Canada or Canada Direct etc but a fruit?

How long have you banked with them?: Only two months.
Why do you bank with them?: The thought of fee free banking appealed to me, they also offered incentives to join.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Actually? Not much, they are exactly the opposite of what they advertise. You cannot effectively replace your main bank (CIBC) with ING. They place holds on deposits for a lot longer than most other banks, they promise sign up bonuses and then don't deliver, and tell you things as fact then won't back those facts up.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: EVRYTHING! From their customer service, their "facts", following national banking rules, the archaic look of both their website and apps.
General comments: Unfortunately I won't be staying with this company anymore. While they offer fee less banking the riddle your account with rules to making banking with them very difficult. At this point the also have out right lied to me.

How long have you banked with them?: 2003 - I believe it was around then CIBCs business arm had BizSmart (or some such name). It was good, actually too good for the business owner so they folded.
Why do you bank with them?: In order to earn SOME interest whereas my business account at RBC costs fees!!!
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Not much anymore. In 2007 they dropped the rate in their BISA. I contacted (actually got a response from the president) but it's the same old story ... we want your money!!! BUT we won't pay cause we've been absorbed by ScotiaBank.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Too late. It's broke and won't be fixed. I do not agree with their philosophy of paying lower rates to a business (example GIC) versus a GIC held personally. I've found a way around this but there are other financial institutions paying better rates.
General comments: I've played this game of chasing higher rates for over 25 years and it will never change. Do your research and try to stay ahead of their tricks. It's all luck in the end.

Why do you bank with them?: No fees & better interest rates than most banks.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: No fees & better interest rates than most banks.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Better communication with customers. I didn't realize that I could use any EXCHANGE network abms to take out cash if I needed to. To this day I have no idea how to change the PIN on my card either. Thus, I have never used my debit card. I just take money out of my account with CIBC because at least I know what machines I can use and how to change my PIN.
General comments: ING has a lot of good features, but if you are a customer who needs to be able to ask questions and talk to someone in person, it is probably not the place for you.

How long have you banked with them?: Over 8 years
Why do you bank with them?: Their rates are better than the major banks, and they don't charge fees.
What do you like about this bank / credit union?: Their online interface is really good. They make it really easy to bank with them, with a good chequing account and a straightforward process to create a joint account.
What could be improved about this bank / credit union?: Their rates need to become competitive again.
General comments: ING Direct could still come out on top. But over the past several years, their rates have been surpassed by other financial institutions by quite a large amount. If there was a small gap, it would be worth it to stay with ING Direct. But the gap has widened to the extent that, combined with its acquisition by Scotiabank, I don't see a reason to stay with ING anymore. I also do not appreciate the fact that they have had arguably "bait and switch" TFSA rates for the past 3 years, hiking it at the beginning of the year beyond what could be attributed to normal rate changes and dropping it thereafter.
