No matter what I do, I cant seem to make a mobile deposit to Zag on Samsung Galaxy Tab3. Has anyone else had a problem with Snapcheque (Zag's mobile deposit app) and figured out how to successfully deposit?
thx...rqs

I've used the iPhone app successfully twice. Once to initially open the account. Then again to deposit a cheque to link a new account.

my problems with snap cheq
1 ipad2---updated to ver 7.0, downloaded the zag bank app from the official app store.
all features work except snap cheque----says "does not support your device..."
2 tried using my LG smart ph----all features work but you have to be VERY patient.
make sure the cheque is visible within the 4 corners, snap the pix and wait, u may get
timed out.
TRIED 3 TIMES and finally it worked ----it will say " pending deposit" when it is successful.

Likewise I had issues and couldn't upload a photo of cheque to Zag last summer after about 5 tries. Further I then sent in my initial deposit cheque to their p.o. box by snail mail 3 Times, as the first 2 envelopes were never received ? they claimed.

Anyway I do have an account with Zag, received bonus...and linked PCf to Zag.
Recently I tried to increase my balance to $1000 via snapcheque
I tried snapcheque on an iphone4, on Samsung android 2.2 , on another andoid 4.4 new Alcatel phone, and on an acer tablet, all with no success. I have been able to deposit via photo of cheque to Tangerine on the three older devices listed above since April 2014.

There seems to be something hinky about Zag. When I first opened an account it took about 4 times to get the cheque snap deposited. Once it was in, it took at least a week to clear, and then they still hadn't linked it to P.C.F. even though that is where the cheque was from. I was told it would take another 5 days from the time the cheque cleared when I called them about this and was not given a logical explanation, or any explanation whatsoever. In the meantime, I sent an online chat inquiry about the promotion, if the money would start earning interest if it was snap chequed on Nov. 15th, the last day of the promo. I requested an email copy of the chat, which of course I never received. I had to call and request a copy of that conversation. The reason for all this is that my money is in Tangerine at 3%, but that runs out November 30th, so I wanted to move it over to Zag on Nov.15th for 2.5% until Mar.20th. Not sure whether that is a good idea. Zag seems to be poor example of an online bank and I don't know how deep that runs. Compared to Tangerine it's a joke.

fabafter50, I think you need only $1000 in the account by Nov 15 to guarantee the 2.5%. Why not deposit that amount now, then the remainder after Nov 30.

2of3aint bad, if that's the case I will absolutely do that! I thought everything had to be in by the 15th. I will confirm that today and let you all know.
Thanks so much, that would certainly be the best solution.sf-cool'

This is from the fine print of the offer:

•The promotional rate of 2.5% is applicable to all Zag Savings accounts (Non-registered, Tax-Free and RRSP).

•To be eligible for the promotional rate, you must be a Zag client with a successfully opened Zag Savings account (Non-registered, Tax-Free and RRSP) and reach a minimum balance of $1,000 by November 15, 2015 (midnight EST).

•Eligible clients will also receive the promotional rate on any additional deposits made to their Zag Savings account before March, 20 2016.

Somewhat nervous about ZAG....sounds alittle rinky-dink and difficult to move the money, according to everyone's postings....
i'm in the same predicament as others--tangerine is running out....for now i put it in scotia 1.5% account (not crazy about 1.5) but have maxed out tangerine and PC.....and of course w PC and tangerine, their promotions are always on NEW FUNDS....so decided to take the money out of tangerine 3% about a month early hoping that they will offer another great promo and i can put the money back....
has anybody done the 100K at Zag?? (or more??)
thank you

Thank you Norman1, that certainly solves one problem. Just not sure whether to do more than the CDIC protected $100,000. Also this was posted in the other Zag Promo discussion on this site from Bryan Stro
"Sure, you're thinking I'll just stuff my money in there for a short term, take advantage of the good rate, and then yank it out on March 20th...at the end of the Promo period. No, it's not going the happen that way... They are going to take a full two weeks, 10 bankdays, to "process' the return of your money! All the advantages of the high rate will be lost during this "no income" period. sf-yell Meanwhile, Peoples Trust is still offering 2.45% on GICs for 2 years or greater.."

I wonder if this applies if you have set up for transfers from your other bank as it is only supposed to take 3 business days to transfer your money, so could you not just transfer it out on March 21st? I could not find anything on the website about them holding the money for 10 bank days.

I don't know where that 10 bank day delay comes from either. I found the three-day hold mentioned in Zag Bank's Electronic Services Terms and Conditions:

Bank to Bank Transfers

Funds transferred between Zag and another Bank or Financial Institution may be subject to an administrative hold of three (3) business days.

Perhaps it was confusion with the "up to 10 business days" to link an external account when one mails the $1 cheque in through Canada Post, instead of transmitting it with SnapCheque.

I have the same problem. The snapcheque does not work on my Samsung Galaxy S2 - whenever I press the button to take the front of the cheque noting is happening. Same for the back. I spent more than 1hr on the phone with their support and they could not offer a solution. Not a happy experience for my first contact with Zag. sf-frown
Since the promotional rate is only till Nov 15 and Zag takes so long to process the cheques received by mail, I am wondering even if it worth a try, rather than go for a sure deposit at a lower rate. At the end they take at least 2 weeks to setup the account and then another week to transfer the money out of the account - this is 3 weeks of lost interest.

The promotional 2½% rate is good until March, 20 2016. One just needs to have at least $1,000 in the account by November 15.

One could mail in a $1,001 cheque as the initial deposit to satisfy the $1,000 requirement of the offer. The rest of the money can be transferred in later electronically.

Opening the Zag savings account is done online and is quick. The link to the external chequing account is activated about five business days after Zag receives the initial deposit cheque in the mail or by SnapCheque. The crediting of the initial cheque depost is shortly after receipt and is much earlier than the activation of the external link.

Canada Post first-class lettermail can take up to five business days to deliver the cheque, unless the cheque is mailed from a remote area. So, there's still plenty of time unless one lives in a remote area.

mihaig, it did indeed take a long time (2 weeks after clearing my chequing account) for my mailed deposit to appear online (maybe because it was into a new TFSA). However, the interest calculated on October 31was 2.5% from the first date (not the deposit date), so I didn't lose any interest. A subsequent transfer made on a Friday appeared on the next Monday, so I didn't see any evidence of what you are concerned about.

Does anyone have any experience with going the other way - out of Zag to another bank?

I tried a withdrawal to PC Financial. It took two business days.

The "Move It" request was made on Zag's Online Banking Friday morning. Funds showed up in PC Financial account on Tuesday.

Just wanted to report my experience so far with Zag. Usually I have no time for these short-term promotions, but this one seemed long enough to give some consideration to. I tried to use Snapcheque but no indication if it went through as the application just froze after submitting the photo. I contacted Zag by email and they responded almost immediately. I decided to mail a hard copy cheque this Monday and my account was opened and money transferred from my external account by Thursday (today). I had contacted them after sending my cheque to make sure it wouldn't be withdrawn twice and with some other questions, and again they responded to my email very quickly.
I think this is the fastest account set up for any online bank I have used so far (lots). Other's experience may be different, but so far, so good!
