I live in the Vancouver BC area. I am wondering if anyone anywhere has purchased internet or TV from a reseller. I do know the CRTC is forcing Telus and Shaw etc to sell their products at a discount to third party resellers. I have dealt with one that is called SurfNet and the TV product was very up and down unreliable as was the customer service.

So if you have some experience now or in the past, good or bad, I would like to hear.

Just a general note - while some incumbents may have resellers, the CRTC mandate is not a reseller agreement. It allows a third party provider last mile access only - that is from the Telus infrastructure to your house. Everything else is up to the third party provider. Billing, features, where your internet traffic goes through, TV/phone service if they do it, that's all on the third party provider. That's why you can have wildly different experiences between providers. The arrangement can best be described as simply asking Telus to run a cable from your house back to the third party provider.

.
I live on a rural acreage, in the South BC Interior (Nelson/Castlegar area). I'm presently on a 2 year contract with Shaw.

When that contract is up, I'm considering moving over to Can Com. They 'piggyback' on the Shaw system ... and are Much Cheaper ❗

Virgin has just started to offer tv service along with internet. You can check on this link to see availability and other details.
https://www.virginmobile.ca/en/tv/index.html
There is also the option of using an IP box or Android box ( not related to Virgin ).

Has anyone tried ComWave? Besides being bombarded by their ads on some news channels, I do not believe their statement that they offer TV "with all your favourite channels" - try telling them that HBO is one of your favourite channels, and I am very doubtful they will include it at that bundle price.

Here in Victoria the only choices appear to be Shaw or Telus.

So far the best one Google rating wise is Dean's Can Com. Look at their reviews and response. They are sort of national. See if they cover Victoria. Also in lower mainland is SurfNet and LightSpeed. They might cover Victoria too. But I would not recommend either. When looking at Google reviews look at the negative comments and the quality of all responses.

Not that I understand.
Freedom Mobile offers Home Internet if you are a mobile customer.

Bell offers TV on mobile phone. Can you Apple play that to a TV?
Does the TV need data to work...will it work with wifi

Shaw TV and Internet offers rock bottom prices for mobile plans in BC and AB.

Now Virgin is offering internet in the east. Do you have to be a mobile customer to be eligible.

The new intertwining is getting confusing. I like my Telus TV and Internet loyalty pricing, my land line VoIP.ms and my Public Mobile Cell Phone that is owned by Telus. I find what best suits me in each category and price and go from there. But I also like to know where the best deals and service is.

Virgin internet has been available in Ontario for a few years . You can get it by itself but you need it to get their tv service. I just checked and it doesn't appear to be available in Vancouver.

I just noticed that Telus Internet is $10 off if you have Telus or Koodo Mobility.

This company used to profess they were 2 different companies.....but not today!!!sf-surprised

Buying from resellers always saved me a lot of money and I switch from one to another whenever I find a better deal that's worth the hassle. I am currently with Allo Telecom which is based in Montreal. My internet provider is Videotron and I pay $51.95 including tax for an unlimited 30/10 Gbps speed internet.

We never ever paid for TV. We get it when they offer for free but haven't had an offer in 5 years or so. Who needs TV these days anyway? I pay $9.82 for Disney+ because of the kids and some interesting documentaries and (sorry) movies are all free streaming. For News, I rely on CBC News and Internet.

Do your research. You can find amazing deals when not buying from the main big providers. It is like big banks you get less value always.

And if you wonder about phone, VoIP.ms is the way to go. You can search this forum to find some interesting discussions.

Save2Retire@55 Have you tried any TV STATION APPS, like Global, CBC, City etc. And then Apple play them to your TV. That way you can get a variety of news and other programming. Also here’s some commercial free music...pick your genre. I believe there is an app for it too. I have strong wifi so I listen to this while working in the garden and sitting in the back yard. Look for CBC playlists.....not Radio 1.

When my daughter tried to clean our smart TV by spray washing it (Ended up in the garbage), I bought a "dumb" TV and connected a broken laptop (One with no screen) to the TV. Basically, we have access to everything including all the sites you mentioned. For CBC, CBC Kids and CBC Gem are amazing resources. I am good with only CBC for News and "serious" programs.

I love https://www.cbc.ca/listen/cbc-podcasts (CBC Podcasts). But nothing beats driving late at night when CBC switches to all over the world's best Radio shows (Australia, BBC UK, DW Germany, and sometimes randomly ME / Africa).

Couldn't agree more. The best non-music radio is in the middle of the night on CBC. One of their best kept secrets. Very informative programming with good investigative journalists from Australian Broadcasting (ABC), DW (Deutsche Welle, Germany) and BBC.

Yup VoIP.ms is one of the best VOIP provider and excellent value.
However one needs to be somewhat tech savvy to set up their own adapter for it to work. They do provide step by step instructions, however the list is long and a lot of people will find it difficult to follow and understand to get it to work.

I agree. They are more into selling to resellers and businesses and not end users but they have amazing support.

I can't do Canadian long boring highway drives without them and I get tired of loud music quickly. Sometimes switching to classic and country which makes me sleepy (Not a good idea while driving, Haha).

Sorry I feel I am changing the topic!

So are you two talking about how great CBC is in the wee hours. Are you talking about the radio station from a real radio with a dial?

The app and website I gave you has both radio and non stop, no commercial music. I know the music only one that you can pick your time zone. If that is the case on the radio......can you cheat that way to listen to your favourites earlier in the evening?
