Income taxes try to rebalance that by tiered rates rising with income levels.
Taxing at a higher % on a higher amount is basically "double" taxation. To "rebalance' the rich vs the poor is such a political blah blah. It's used to please the poor which is the majority of the voters...

In the US, right now, we are seeing import tariffs - regressive taxes that cost the less wealthy a greater proportion of their income - being applied to enable major income tax cuts and corporate targeted cuts. Consumers pay for tariffs.
The US Supreme Commander is banking on his loyal followers to remain intoxicated on his kool-aid for the next 4 years as he declares war on all their allies ....

To suggest that consumers bear the burden of tariffs is not my view, far greater financial impact will be to the many working-age people (and their families) who will lose their jobs. Retired Boomers, who have had many decades to prepare for retirement, who suggest that having to pay a bit more for groceries, etc is the main problem tariffs cause strikes me as kind of Me Generation-ish.

I look forward to see who all the whiny babies blame for their hardships once the Boomers all pass on. I for one would like to thank all the Boomers who through their hard work built up a lot of the positive things we take for granted and are in the process of loosing through apathy at best.

The $200 Ontario tax rebates are being done by mailed paper cheques. Printing and mailing of cheques is not as fast as electronic direct deposits.
The distribution is still in progress. According to Toronto.com (February 8, 2025): Are you one of the millions of Ontarians still waiting…, about 11.76 million of the 15 million rebates have been issued so far.

Even if they spend their saved wealth instead of passing it directly to heirs, that accumulated value/wealth is still being drawn down and dispersed to the next generation via businesses.
I like this. I am going to use this logic when buying bottle of Dalmore Whisky for myself to drink with my friends, instead of passing in the form of cash to heirs what did it cost me to buy it.
The Dalmore 45-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky $47,000.00

I know two ladies, both married in the 1970s, who got their cheques issued in their maiden names, names not used since marriage. How?
And I thought I had the government news of the week. From CRA I had ordered 2 paper Ontario T3 returns and associated packages, this week's mail brought the 2 returns along with the 2012 (yes, 2012) T1 individuals' returns schedules booklets for Manitoba.

I got my $200 cheque but my wife did not. I checked the online status through service Ontario and it says 'Pending - Call xxx'. She has filed her taxes.
Anyone facing same issue? What could be the issue?
I think the cheques are mailed alphabetically. Maybe the CRA think your name starts with a "Z".
