These corporations need stores and they need people to come into them. They want to entice you to buy stuff you didn't necessarily know existed but which you may buy if you can pick up and handle it, for one thing, and for another they are scared stiff of Costco and of Amazon, who will sell you pretty much anything online - if not this week then coming soon.
And I read somewhere that amazon, not to be outdone, has opened at least one store somewhere in the US.
An attractive store with helpful employees and full shelves is essential to the well-being of these corporations, but they will always cut as many corners as they can get away with.
I shop online only now, must limit my choices accordingly and pay extra for delivery (but not paying for gas and don't have to lug the stuff to the house), but it's only for the duration of the pandemic. However, there is going to be some "bleed through'. Next time we don't feel like driving to the store after the pandemic i s over, we won't hesitate to order online for delivery. I imagine some stores in urban / suburban areas will close or downsize as a result.

Why? Are you scared of vaccinated zombies?
Get out of house. Take a walk. Pick your groceries. Don't rely on somebody else to do that for you. I hope you sterilize everything you get delivered just in case...

So now you not only have bad work ethic, but staff shortages, continued cost cutting and a less reliable supply chain. I've peaked in the back on more than one occasion and seen palettes of food sitting there. IMO, most of the food is there it's just the employees aren't motivated to do a good job these days and that's making things look much worse than they are. Shelves are so disorganized and not rotated or managed to keep things looking proper.
Where do you shop? I shop at Loblaws, NoFrills, Costco and Farm Boy. I'm quite observant but I have never seen anything like that ...

To mimic a Yellow Pages cliché, I prefer to let my legs do the shopping ... better for me, cheaper, and I get to decide which items to put in the cart ...

I found this to be a very insensitive response. Many people, seniors and those with compromised immune systems in particular, are very concerned about contracting what could be a life-threatening virus. If shopping on line makes one feel safer, who are you to criticize. We have actually subscribed to the seniors' method of shopping. We shop early in the morning , usually between 8 and 9 when crowds are minimal. Some stores actually have some dedicated seniors' hours (Costco: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-9am). We also do curbside pickups at Walmart when needed to avoid crowds.
Hopefully Loonie can get outside for walks, weather permitting. Those icy sidewalks at this time of year can also be treacherous for seniors.
It's a very stressful time for many people in many different ways. Have some compassion.

I totally agree with you gicjunkie. Pooreva's response to Loonie's comment was uncalled-for and in very poor taste. It is not the type of comment usually found on this forum. Politeness and manners are deteriorating everywhere unfortunately – online and face to face.
