Interesting.
Sadly, it will, in the end, only hurt the members, whose rates and/or dividends will be negatively affected, even if CC wins, due to legal fees.
I predict that in future some FIs won't want to deal with BC residents, just as they now don't want to deal with QC, because of consumer laws. Ideally, I think consumer protection ought to be a national matter.

Maybe that's one of the reasons they want to go national. I, for one, am happy to see a large corporation being called out for sneaky, deceptive practices in the name of profits. Now if only there was some way to make PayPal accountable for their crooked policies regarding exchange rates and fund sourcing, that would be a class action I'd join in a heartbeat.

From what I understand if you "are or were" a Coast Capital customer you will be included in the suit. I did feel hosed by CC for using a USA ATM as not only do you pay the fee at the USA ATM, 2.5% exchange handling fee and as well CC charges another $5.00 for the withdrawal, while Vancity doesn't charge the $5.00 fee.
Just watch the new CC commercial she talks and says what is free and each time there is a ding sound. Then the ding sound continues because the toaster oven is overheated. It is a very slick subliminal message suggesting more is free. And also note all the "free" chequing posters in the branch...more subliminal advertising. A chequing account is the only thing that is free...but when you run out of cheques.....they are NOT free to refill. "FREE" at CC is not the case....they have a lot of sleazy fees....and am glad they have been caught.
I don't think this would be acceptable in any province.
