Loonie, UPS rang with chocolate from Oaken for my husband, then 20 minutes later with a box for me! Much smaller than last year's, but at least we each got one. Perhaps they are now sending a smaller box to every client? Learning from Tang's bad press about how people want equal treatment? Enjoying excellent customer service from Oaken including this experience recently: despite dropping the GIC rate they were willing to give me the higher rate on an RRSP maturing a month later. With the extra CDIC coverage now under Home Bank, can comfortably increase deposits there. Way to go, Oaken!

The first year I received the chocolate, spouse and I each got our own, and the box was twice as big. But Oaken has economized since then and we only get the one smaller box. We do not have any joint accounts there, so it appears to be one per household. Still, a nice bonus. I hope they can decrease the amount of packaging in future.

The package may weigh 2 pounds but there is nowhere near 2 lbs of chocolate! We've never gotten any birthday gift cards. What do you have to do to get those?
I was joking about the 2 pounds. I checked box last night.....no weight, no name of supplier and no country of manufacture. The McCafe have been delivered for the last 2 years.
It appears to me their list is spotty. I remember the first time you guys were talking about chocolates here and we didn’t receive any TIL the next year.

Yes, I know they've never had any identifying info on the boxes. I asked once and was told the supplier was Lindt, which I find credible.
I didn't want anyone to get their hope up that they were going to receive 2 pounds of chocolate. They would be some disappointed!
I've been with Oaken for about five years. Still no McCafe. I would have thought we had enough money there to merit whatever perqs and perks were available!
Not a big deal though, as I dislike coffee. The last time I drank it was about 50 years ago, and even then it was only to be sociable. But I would give it to the food bank or whomever.

Hi Loonie! While not a fan of MacDonalds I can tell you that the McCafe $5 is NOT restricted to coffee products. So far they have not screwed up a cup of tea and the cake like muffins. I would rather see $5 towards a better quality product.
It wasn’t TIL this post that I wondered about the origin of the chocolates. I do know that when shopping for some items when we cannot clearly see the item is made in Canada or made in USA we don’t buy it. Ie. packaged for and distributed by doesn’t cut it and we assume it is from China. And with my 40 years of being in retail distribution I can tell you that most good Canadian sources will have lines of merchandise made off shore.

Interesting - I received a big box of various teas this year from Oaken. I dislike tea so will try to give it away. Last year when I received Oaken chocolates - family and friends refused those because of the lack of labelling (we all figured it was garbage from China) so we dumped those. Another institution sent me a Starbucks card this year - that worked well.

Now, I'm intrigued!
What brand of tea is it? I like tea!
It's a shame you threw out the chocolate. It's quite decent. (And we are regular consumers of high end chocolate - Soma is our favourite in Toronto).
But, I agree, there is no point whatsoever in bad chocolate!
Someone just gave us a box of Black Magic(TM) and we don't know what to do with it. I wouldn't give it to anyone, but perhaps a food bank user will appreciate it.
