Kind of a dumb question to me, given that pretty much every adult on the planet wherever they've lived has been chasing wealth since time immemorial, never mind that those who do have a pile hardly ever give it all away before they're dead. The evidence seems pretty clear to me.
Maybe for westerners but might not be the ultimate goal of native Amerindian’s on how they used to share everything with the tribe instead of selling everything for a profit.

Max, that's the norm in tribal groups all over the world, not just "Amerindians", these group are usually not far removed from possible food insecurity and other hardships thus their daily reliance on the group, never mind the fact everybody knows each other, means they need to be nice to each other.
Once you get to bigger, settled situations that are more comfy and where not everybody knows each other the competition begins, all over the world (e.g. check out today in Asia, etc wherever getting wealth is possible), not just "westerners".
