Nothing seems out of the ordinary there. Those countries are all countries (or at least part of the countries) subject to economic sanctions, as far as I can tell.

Slovenia and Latvia are full members of the European Union and use the Euro for their currency. Those one’s are definitely out of place. It’s an extraordinary achievement to gain full membership.

I was in China a few weeks ago and was able to use the card in Hong Kong but not in China.

Was it due to Wealthsimple rejecting the transaction, or was it simply that all Mastercard were unsupported on the device you used?

My intent was to use the Wealthsimple card to obtain Chinese currency from an ATM. The ATM's I tried in China accepted the card and password. However, a message indicated that the transaction was not permitted. I did not try to use the card for purchases. My spouse used an Alipay account. Cash is not commonly used in China. Street vendors appear to prefer electronic payment. I was able to use my Rogers card to use the subway. There are glass doors on subway platforms in Beijing and Shanghai and the stop announcements and signs are in both Mandarin and English. It was quite the experience.

Indeed the list is now 29 countries long, none of them look like destination hotspots........
