TFSA rates from the Big 5 (or 6) canadian banks seems always inferior compared with the rates of online banks that we have. Also, I have a TFSA with Scotiabank and I notice that their rate is always changing like a woman's mind. I noticed 3 rate changes for the year 2011. Unlike for example, CDF, 3.00% the whole 2011. (Coast Capital: 2 changes for 2011, from 1.15% to 1.20%)

BMO is offering 1.25% for a non TFSA savings too. Coast Capital is offering 1.20% for non TFSA savings as well. Not a big deal!!! (not a BMO fan either!!!). No point of offering this service to the banks...when Winnipeg CU's are offering .75% to 1% more.

I realize the CUs might be better/higher rates but shouldn't the banks be included for reference?
I guess you have a point.
Show the low rates offered by the big 5 and let the business sway to the CU's.
Not to mention; it makes you wonder what the big 5 do with the difference in interest rates offered, fees administered, and average customer service.
But is it worth the effort to show what most of us already know??

Part of the reason why this site was started was to avoid giving the big banks any special treatment. They should have to earn their spot on the chart, just like other financial institutions. However, I am definitely seeing the point that both of you have made.
