I don't know why Herman is wanting to close it.
I have two reasons for closing my promotional offer.
1) This is my way of expressing my discontent and returning their contempt towards me. They refused to extend the Same Household offer for 6% to me. I want to be certain that I do not park any funds there, even if only in transit. It is my 'middle finger' back to Tang.
2) In the past, I think I received the 5.5% offer because I prematurely closed a promo offer. I think that I was on the 5% offer and was refused any upgrade to 5.25% or 5.5%. IIRC, they kept extending the low offer without any increase. I had no money with them, anyway. So I demanded they close the offer. It 'may' have triggered the subsequent 5.5% offer.
One CSR suggested that no promo offer would be given if there were no funds in my accounts. So, I left $0.01 in the balance.

A couple of questions.
1) How does one "close" an offer?
2) Has anybody ever received a promo offer if they had no funds in either their chequing or savings account?

Previously, I called Tang to get the CSR to send an e-mail request to their back-office and it was done. I checked tonight, but the current request was not done. CSR said to check back tomorrow, in case it was still in process. No notes were added to the request, so it wasn't closed.
I have received promo offer without any cash present, but they seem to be fewer and farther in-between.

Last time I was told by CSR their system does not allow them to remove an live promo from the account once accepted…

That was my impression as well. I am currently on a promo that will expire in November. So, it would seem unlikely I will receive another promo while the current one is still "alive".
I think some people actually pass up a promo hoping to get a better one a bit later.

please enlighten me, how exactly does someone become "invited" to their interest rate promos? -randy
If you have been following the Tangerine discussions here since joining this group in 2012, you already know the answer to that question: there is an internal to Tangerine selection process that no one has figured how to influence.
Except, there have been suggestions that your odds might improve some if you dream of doing the chicken dance while sleeping on your back with your head aimed at the S and your feet toward the NE and NW in a room between 24 and 25C.

A couple of weeks back Tang reduced their HISA interest rate from 1% to 0.8%
Today I noticed that the HISA rate is now 0.7%MY promo rate is still 6% until Jan 32-2024 .
I will definitely be moving my $'s out when the promo is over !
Whether the base rate is 1% or .5%, a lot of $ will be moving out if no extensions offered ...
