Just a PSA that Tangerine will without much hassle match 3.0%. I asked to transfer to my motive account currently offering 3%. They came back and said they could offer 3% for 150 days.

I actually declined and moved my money out anyways I'm Fed up with having to keep calling them, and/or have them not match promotions being offered when i'm already locked in.

Thank you for your post, tobyz28. It is what inspired me to call them. And when I was trying to get to a live agent, I heard the automated voice tell me that I was eligible for the 3% offer. And I just have to press a digit on the phone to activate it. I'm very happy about this because without that my money would be in the lower rate of 2.6% with accelerate financial (because motive financial rejected my application). So I'm moving my funds from accelerate financial to Tangerine.

This is getting weird. So, Tang is now using a computer voice to advise customers of their promo rate.

Well I did this before I logged online. I think if I had logged onto my account or into the tangerine app before I called I would also see the promotion there. But I don't think I ever got the targeted email.

Thanks for the heads up. I was on a 2.5% promo until October, but I called in today and asked for the 3%. They gave it to me right away. On 3% until Dec 15th, 2022.

Wow! You got 15 days more than I do. Lol
I hope by November 30 there would be a financial institution with a better rate than 3%

It's good that Tang will increase their on-going Promo to match Motive in your cases.

It appears to be a YMMV situation. It's unfortunate (and wasting 30 minutes on-hold) that they would not budge for me, my spouse, nor my adult kids. So transferred 99+% of funds out to Motive. Maybe one day, if Tang is more competitive, will transfer some $ back (maybe not).

Why don't Tangerine just increase interest of everybody's account to 3%, like what DUCA did?

Strange behavior (not! - for Tang, or any of the big banks) to avoid proactively upward adjusting everyone's rate automatically.

Logged in this morning and no "insights", nothing in "Bonuses and Contests", no e-mails from them. I'm on the 2.8% August 31 promo.

I'm wondering if this is only given for one of the other promos expiring imminently, or a lower rate promo? Its impossible to tell from the posts above, except from AdrenalineTrade's post about the 2.5%. However that one doesn't expire soon (October)?

And for those who get this rate, is it recorded later in writing either in Bonuses and Contests or via e-mail?

I am on Tangerine 2.2% promo till November 30. I transferred everything to Motive. Would be nice to have Tangerine proactively offer me 3%, which would have stopped me from moving money, but they didn't. Too late now.

Lower interest rate means more profit, assuming that customers are unaware of better competition

Tang has been acting weird for several years now, but this now is getting really bizarre.

Before I got 3% in my tangerine savings account last night, I was on 0.4%. perhaps that is why tangerine offered me the promotional rate of 3%... Because of my low rate.Screenshot_20220720-060004_Tangerine5.jpg

I hear a bit of a disgruntled feeling from your post. Motive financial rejected my application, perhaps because the address I gave was a PO box, which does not match the address on my driver's license, which is the address that most financial institutions use as my address. If motive financial accepted my application two days ago, I would happily have moved it. In other words I would not be sad if my existing accounts do not offer me a high rate, as long as I'm able to get the highest rate available to me in British Columbia. I guess I'm trying to understand why you would rather not move your money to the best competitor.

Yup, it is said that it takes 10 (maybe more) times more resources to gain a new client than to keep an existing client. When the existing client transfers to another FI, the client becomes a new client (to the other FI).

Joke's on Tang., how do they know that the new clients won't transfer their $ out at the end of the Promo? There's a good chance that a client who is knowledgeable about on-line banking probably is knowledgeable about competing FI's offer.

Personally, I don't want an offer from Tangerine for the time being as it would be preferable to have one sometime in the Fall. I'm currently on promos with Simplii 3% until the end of October, Meridian 3.15% until mid January and Motive 3%. I would like an offer from Tangerine as those other promos come closer to expiring, nothing yet, might be because I ignored their "special" 2.2% offer until the end of November in May, oh well.

If one has a Tang account promo for CAD only will they match for US$ or cut a separate deal for US$? Someone told me if they have promo just for CAD Tang can't apply another promo to US$

If I recall automated message correctly, you enjoy the promotional rate on all savings accounts. But might I suggest calling them up to confirm by unreliable memory 🙂

Initially I had offer of 2.50% for both CAD & USD until Oct. 30. Called Tangerine, they offer 2.80% for 150 days for both CAD & USD. I accepted the offer since I can always remain my CAD at 3% somewhere else and get 2.80% for my USD in Tangerine.
