Tangerine now has an immediate (via PLAID) and the usual Manual method of linking up to 3 external accounts. However, many external financial institutions that used to work Manually do not work even via PLAID. Tangerine claims it is a technical problem. I have a hard time believing it as some institutions can still be linked Manually.

I've noticed this too, and I have to say, it works really well. I was able to get my new CIBC account set up with a 4 month 5% promo and funded in less than an hour!

As far as I know, Plaid/Flinks in most cases is doing a sophisticated form of screen scraping? You give it your credentials, and their software is logging in and they are scraping enough info as they navigate around the site as "you" to confirm your identity and whatnot. They may also be sucking out your balances and other information, looking through their disclosures it is hard to tell exactly what you are agreeing to by using the services.
It is quite possible those small institutions mentioned have changed their interfaces and Plaid or Flinks haven't updating their scraping for them, or there is something about the interface that makes it difficult, handling various forms of 2-factor authentication could be failing, or they are just so small it hasn't been worth the effort to get things working for those institutions.

At Tangerine, I can't link Motive and Neo. In both cases I get an error message. Didn't try any other FIs.
I used to be able to link Motive before, and I did. Then, due to three links limitation at Tangerine I needed to unlink Motive and now I can't link it back.
Nothing changed with my account at Motive, something must have changed with Tangerine.
