Agreed, just called them. Won't give promotional rate (3%) to existing customer. No choice but to move money out. If many depositors take action, then when/if Tang. notices that deposits have declined, perhaps they will re-think how they treat existing customers vs. new customers. (You can't chop down a tree with 1 swing).

PATCH002
Tangerine will give 3% on old money (in savings), that thread is under the tangerine heading. I posted a 1 888 service rep phone number to call in that thread.
I had the 2.5% offer until nov 30th, 2018. It was not a gic, so i was NOT locked in. When i heard that tangerine were offering 3%, i wanted this higher rate. So the 2.5% ended and the 3% started, oct 8th or oct 9th of 2018. I now have 3% on my savings (old and new money) until april 2019.
If next week, tangerine offer someone 3.25% and i hear about it. I will no longer accept their 3%. I will demand the higher rate, i will demand a new term.
Understand this, tangerine paying a promo rate, we are not locked in. This is not a contract where we are held accountable, tangerine must honor their term, we DO NOT.

Bill. You know this...
If tangerine ended their promo mid term, the optics of that would destroy them. Their word would mean absolutely nothing.
So YES... tangerine can change their interest rate policy at ANY time... in the event of an alien invasion, a zombie outbreak, or a global nuclear war... you should expect a 0% return on your money because we will all be dead.
Better?

Much better, Kidd! I agree it's unlikely, but the scenario I think most likely is if we have a sudden global financial crisis or something along the lines of 9/11, where policy makers again slash interest rates down to near zero to keep us shopping, then it's clear Tangerine wants to be able to adjust. I'm hoping it won't require my death for them to renege on the promo rate, that would be a double hit for me.

Contacted Tangerine through online chat today as my most recent offer (2.5%) is about to expire on Nov 30. Asked if another offer was pending. Agent offered me 2.0 % for 90 days. I said thanks, but no thanks, as Simplii is offering 3.15, Motive 2.8%, and Equitable 3.33% (for 90 days). Agent immediately offered me 3.0% for 90 days, (on Tangerine savings acct). I think 3.0 is reasonable in this environment.
