Typically, insurance companies charge you extra for the privilege of spreading out your payments throughout the year. And, also typically, this extra fee is higher than the increased return you'd get from any credit card with cashback for "recurring payments".
I just looked into this a couple of weeks ago for a new car insurance contract, and it wasn't worth our while to switch to recurring payment.

I would be careful with paying extra to get the "Recurring Bill Payment" 2% category.
The MasterCard transaction must be flagged as a "Recurring Transaction" by the merchant to fall in that category. Tangerine warns in the cardholder agreement that not all merchants set the recurring transaction flag on their ongoing transactions:
- Recurring Bill Payment: Recurring bill payments are defined as payments made on a monthly or other regular basis, and which are automatically billed by the merchant to your Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card, such as your monthly phone bill. Not all merchants offer recurring payments, and not all ongoing payments will be considered “recurring payments” for purposes of this category. Please check with your merchant to see if your recurring payment qualifies.

It depends on insurance company. 'Big' one let you divide your yearly premium into 12 equal payments with $0/0% fee. 'Small' one want all your money NOW. Big/small could be classified by their wealth or user base. For my insurance comp it is the same if I pay them $1K now or over 12 months.
I already switched all my 'recurring' payments to Tang. In a few weeks will see what is actually 'recurring' and what not. No loss here as all those payments were changer to Walmart card which has 1% walmart$ cash back.
But, thanks for the tip, I will ask all companies do they classify their charge as 'recurring transaction'. Actually I will not waste my time on that. When bill comes, I will see how it is processed...
Let see what Fido says... According to rep, they do not flag transactions as 'recurring'.
Funny thing is that rep at cafe was enthusiastically confirming that mobile bills, internet, insurance, you name it as long as it comes at regular intervals is considered 'recurring'.
I think I am from another planet or most 'humans' around me are ignorant morons...
On another note, when I look at my selected categories, it shows 3 selected with text underneath: In effect until: April 16, 2016. So what happens after Apr. 16???

You are correct (I hope) as talking with the rep (with heavy French accent, difficult to understand) she confirmed that too. But it is kind of strange; what about 90 days of wait period after selecting categories? I selected them some 2-3 weeks ago????
Tang MC update: check your MC account. It looms like 4% does not work properly. I have been awarded only 2%. Rep tried to persuade me that 4% kicks off on Apr 11????? When I pointed out that their site said Marc 29 (or around) she put me on hold and then told me she sent an e-mail to their IT department as it should 4 not 2.
If they outsourced IT the same way as call centre, good luck to us all.

I've been taking advantage of the fact that the Northwest Company (TSX:NWC) is MCC #5411: purchased 2 rear tires (needed badly) for my ATV over the weekend and was rewarded 4% cashback of $15.23 today. Yes, the company is MCC 5411, but in the north, they are more or less a general merchandise store. I hope TNG doesn't catch on for the remaining weeks of this promo. Now to tackle those pesky $25.00 half-pound bag of grapes...

Its MC, not Tang, who is in charge of the merchant numbers, so you're safe!
Do you get a better price on raisins? Then you could reconstitute them yourself!
Seriously, though, I thought you were moving back down south? (I bought grapes in TO for 1.38/lb a couple of weeks ago , but, then, you have to afford the real estate!)

Raisins are arriving on our annual sealift resupply in late August. We have to make those raisins, among other items, last one year.
Move south - that's still the plan, but we have a limited window to do so. At that time - I think it was April/May - the better half was preparing for the third (and final) of three interviews for a position in the national capital region, when I looking into the various components of leaving the north (pension, real estate, amongst others).
Not long after the better half received correspondence from the organization, and it was the response she didn't want to receive. Quite disappointing to her, but we had to move on.
In response, we suspended employment search, and refocused on the annual resupply (which planning begins in mid to late May, orders need to be placed by mid-June (now), time needed for crating and loading to the docks in Montreal (before mid-July). Given the volume, time and dollar amount of annual resupply (think a new 2016 F150 price for food) we simply delayed everything, and will begin again in late 2016. We can recoup some of those costs by having a northern-style garage sale, if need be, at any time.
Neither of us are willing to move without having a job to go to (one of us at a minimum).

Sorry to hear you missed out. Third interview is very promising though, and shows we was qualified. I hope something else will work out - maybe even a better situation, where you both get an offer!
I'd never thought about how complicated it would be to leave the far north - or to get a handful of raisins in June!.
I can see where a "garage sale" in May could be very popular!
