So, existing cardholders who've had a card since, let's say, early December 2016 (like me) would be eligible? :)

Cheers,
Doug

P.S. Love my Tangerine credit card - still can't believe a credit card has been able to woo me away from using my SCENE Visa, which I still maintain and have held and used exclusively since 2005. :)

The following mailing has gone out to existing card holders, allowing them 3 months to pick up 4% on their 3 categories.

My message is you have 4 days to Apply! This is a Great deal. Tangerine have done a wonderful job of displaying the transactions on the Accounts Page. Charges appear in real-time. Next day the Rewards are posted by transaction. Following Statement posting the Cash Rewards are applied to your Savings account. Anyway, you have 4 days and counting down to apply for the Card and get 4% until July 10, 2016. I personally use the Card only for my 3 2% categories. I use my CIBC Drivers Edge card (no longer available) for all other transactions as I get 2% for EVERY transaction.

It appears, however, that the preview has (recently?) ended. From Tangerine today at 11:00 am EST:

"Our Credit Card Preview has ended, but stay tuned for the exciting official launch of the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card coming soon. Check back here often to find out how you can apply for the Credit Card that helps you save money even when you’re spending."

I applied for the preview a little over one month ago when the offer was still active, but have not received any feedback (nor have I actively sought any sort confirmation of my preview application sf-embarassed).

Or - does this only apply to existing cardholders, in so much that cardholders are required to apply for the 4%?

Nevermind - solution noted in another forum.sf-surprised

Same here; I applied for preview but received no response.
Today I applied for card and got approved...

Question for car owners: do you have an option to pay balance in FULL and to fund it from external account or you have to use Tang account to pay the balance or whatever amount you choose?

Haven't got the snail mail, but got an email:

As a follow-up to the note we recently sent you in the mail, we just wanted to send you a quick reminder that you have a special offer in place on your Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card. From April 11, 2016 to July 10, 2016, you’re earning 4% money back in your chosen categories, instead of your usual 2% Money-Back Rewards*.

Remember, there’s nothing you need to do to earn these double Rewards – just continue using your Card.

It’s our way of thanking you for being one of the first people to get the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card.

Thanks again,

Tangerine

Those with existing cards, should have received an email from Tangerine about this. :)

I only got the Mailer via snail mail, never got an email as posted above. Tangerine must be treating customers differently. Promotion states "available only to Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card Accountholders in Good Standing who applied for the Credit Card on or before 11:59 pm ET on March 28, 2016". I had assumed if you applied before the deadline you could get the 4% deal ... but on further review "Good Standing" may mean a proven credit record by paying your Tangerine Statement in Full and on time. For those who qualify it is a great deal for 3 months.

I received both the mailer in the mail and the e-mail. Check your Junk E-mail or Spam folder in case your e-mail client categorized the e-mail message as spam in error.

This is the definition of "Good Standing" from the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card Rewards Program Terms & Conditions:

“Account in Good Standing” means a Credit Card Account that is not more than two (2) consecutive monthly statement periods past due and is not closed, charged off, or in credit revoked status, all according to our credit risk policies that may change from time to time.

Yes, one can pay the outstanding balance in full each month.

Yes, one can pay the Tangerine MasterCard from an external account. Tangerine MasterCard is an online banking bill payee. It is on the bill payee list of RBC Royal Bank, PC Financial, and of WFCU Credit Union. It is probably on the bill payee list of other financial institutions too.

Thank you Norman1.
I hope they have 'auto-pay full balance on due date'. ALL of my bills are set this way so the only 'worry' I have is to have funds on my account to pay bills. Shame not all bills can be charged on credit card.
Never had bad experience with this way of paying (double payments, missed payment, etc.).

What merchant options did you guys selected for this cash back card? I picked groceries, home improvement and recurring bills (assuming that will be insurance, internet,etc.). I hope there are more than initially offered 10?

I picked Gas, Restaurants, and Recurring Bills. But debating on switching Restaurants for Groceries as there may be some things I'll want to buy at Walmart, and it be nice to get 4% cashback from.

Unfortunately, you cannot setup a Pre-authorized payment to the Tangerine Mastercard from an external bank account. PAP can only occur from your Tangerine bank account that you can setup to automatically pay the full balance.

To pay from an external account, you will need to initiate the transaction from the external account "bill payments".

It will be interesting to do some analysis regarding gas purchases; I prefer 2 cents+5 cents/litre off at Petro Canada so have 'special' card for gas only.
Restaurants? Do not trust 'cooks' in those establishments... not very keen to eat somebody's sweat or dandruff or worse... Prefer exclusively home cooked meal. Weirdo, but cannot help it.

I assume you are referring to the CIBC Petro points mastercard in combination with a petro fuel savings rewards card to save the 2 cent / 5 cents respectively.

Would you not be better off with choosing a gas category with Tangerine and using that in combination with the Fuel savings rewards card during this 4% promo?

With Gas prices roughly at 90c / litre. 4% = 3.6c / litre combined with the Fuel savings card would give you 8.6c / litre total.

Granted this only works better during the 4% promo AND when gas prices are over $1 / litre with the normal 2%.

I don't think Wal Mart is classified under the groceries category. I know Costco isn't and the govt liquor store isn't. I used it at Fred Myer in the states and it was classified as groceries even though not everything I bought was food, and I bought food at an American Wally World and only got a 1% reward. Haven't tried it for anything at a Canadian Wal Mart. Anybody used it for groceries in Canada at WalMart? What reward were you given...1 or 2%

You are incorrect. Walmart superstores have for years been classified as grocery stores as per Mastercard.

Its the reason why you get 2% back with the RBC Cashback Mastercard and 2% with the MBNA Smart Cash Card when making purchases at Walmart. Its no different with Tangerine's Mastercard.

Visa and American Express on the other hand have not classified Walmart Superstores as groceries.

The reward depends on the MCC code of the merchant credit card terminal used and not what one buys at the merchant.

I wrote in an earlier post about the category of Walmart Canada stores.

Essentially, it depends on the Walmart store. The Walmart Superstores are category 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarkets) while the regular Walmart stores are category 5310 (Discount Stores).
