Tangerine is now finally playing catchup with most other banks and offering
Free INTERAC eTransfers (email transfers) now. About time!
I hope they now give free cheques like Simplii Financial and offer bill payment directly through their Savings account like EQ bank.
I waste lot of time moving money from Savings to Checking and then paying bills.

I have been using Tangerine's free email transfer for years now. It is not new.
Yes it is new.
Interac email transfer was never free before with Tangerine, they charged $ 1 for it.
What you have been using is Tangerine's (so I have) own in house email free transfer, which is different from Interac email transfer.
Interac email transfer is much faster and easier for the recipient, especially if the recipient is a non Tangerine user, than the Tangerine inhouse free email transfer ever was.

Thanks for posting this. Their website is silent about this change for some reason. I agree, it was about time they caught up with the rest of the banking world. Even RBC had free eTransfers while Tangerine didn't, which I thought was ironic!
I wish Tangerine were on the forefront of banking trends in Canada, like ING used to be. It seems like they're just following the industry practices rather than being innovative and truly different.
I still can't wrap my head around the idea that they introduced a "money saving" credit card with forex. They had an opportunity to stand out and capture an entire market of Canadians who travel often, do cross-border shopping, snowbirds, online shoppers, etc. and they completely blew it. I am not sure how much revenue they generate though that 2.5% forex, but I doubt it was worth forgoing such a huge client base.
Anyway, I am glad somebody at Tangerine realized that their $1 fee for eTransfers was ridiculous and senseless, and dropped it.

They used to have two different transfers - email transfer (free) and Interac e-Transfer (was not free). It seems email transfer is gone and e-Transfer changed to free.
Yes and their own inhouse email transfer was really bad especially if the recipient was a non Tangerine customer. It was embarassing, literally used to take 2 days for them to receive it.
I often used to bite the bullet and pay the $ 1 Interac fee, when sending money instead of using their Free email transfer. To save myself from being embarrassed in front of the recipient.
Interac etransfer generally used to be instant or maybe 0.5 hr at the worst.

even their parent bank Scotia, which is not that great either had free interac etransfers on most of their plans and accounts! , which was really weird.
I believe Tangerine doesn't have incoming and outgoing wire transfers either! Someone was going to send me money from abroad via wire transfer and Tangerine said they don't do INCOMING wire transfers! This was a couple of years back. Not sure if things have changed now.
Tangerine is just an Online version of Scotiabank now, nothing new or innovative about them. Rates are pretty crappy and Customer service has also gone down, both on web chat and via phone.

I don't think there'd be one tear shed, if Peter removed Tangerine from this website ... it doesn't deserve to be here anymore.

Just sent one yesterday and saw this.. Not sure if this was mentioned in fee changes.. Interac is suppose to be quick but typically takes me an hour.. Back in the day I would use Tangerines' free service or use Huberts withdrawal feature to send money to people.. By far the most flexible in the industry without having to call in.. The tangerine method just uses the eft like a billpayment outbound.. I hope all banks let me do what I want lol and not the other way around!

2.75% on my USD for 6 months....best bank in Canada IMO.
2.75% on my CAD for 6 months....not too shabby (although I keep mine at LB for the 3.3%)
Tangerine is great for at least half the year...move money in, before promotion ends move money out, and don't call and grovel for a retention rate. I have not gotten back to back promotion rates from Tangerine in years, and do not expect them. They will come back to you in 3 or 6 months with another great offer. If you don't want to play the game park your money at EQ. Over the last 10 years, no other bank has been as good as Tangerine for interest rates over the long term IMO.
Tangerine....Canada's best bank. LBC.............Canada's 2nd best bank.
Hubert.....worst bank in Canada.

If that ^ (and Tangerine) works for you, then so be it ... fill yer boots❗
As for me (and many others), I'm not a short-term rate chaser ... I got better things to do with my time & money.

LOL...yet you have time everyday to come here and post which takes much longer than moving money on line or making a trade at your online brokerage...

Excluding targeted promos, Tangerine has the interest rate of major banks, come on, 1.1% ???
Interac e-transfers now being free, typically takes half an hour to receive. Other banks, almost instant. Although I kept my account opened, I no longer have any money there; the offer is much better elsewhere.

Methinks he finds it more fun talking to us than dealing with online banking and its many quirks.

A Canadian couple who are TD Canada Trust customers recently lost hundreds of dollars TWICE in what Global News called an "e-transfer nightmare". Some of you may have heard about this recent incident.Although Tangerine only permits 3 external links for the slower bank-to-bank transfer option, I think it's the safer and securer option. I've been using Tangerine's bank-to-bank transfer method since several years and didn't have any issue even once.
For those wishing to link more than 3 external accounts there's always EQ Bank - which allows unlimited external links as far as I know. I think it's the same case with Meridian Credit Union.
Here's the article about the Canadian couple's Interac e-transfer predicament https://globalnews.ca/news/6126894/a-couple-who-banks-with-td-canada-trust-loses-hundreds-of-dollars-during-e-transfer-not-once-but-twice/
Shhhh. You're not allowed to say nice things about Tangerine on this site, you'll upset the snowflakes.

…
The Global News story is actually about Interac e-Transfers. That's not the same as those fund transfers done by pushing funds electronically to linked accounts through Payment Canada's retail clearing system.
It is not really possible to have an issue with those push funds transfers unless someone altered the branch, transit, and account number of the receiving linked account on the sender's online banking site.
