TANGERINE DOESN'T HONOR THEIR OFFERS!! On January 3/19 I called Tangerine to transfer money to Simplii Financial as they were offering 3.15% interest on new deposits. I had become a new Tangerine customer October 1 and was getting 2.75% interest until end of March. Simplii's interest of 3.15% was better so I wanted to move my money there. Tangerine told me that they would extend their offer of 2.75% interest for a further 180 days so I stayed. Fast forward to May 1 and my bonus interest is gone even though I was promised it would continue until July 1. I called and they gave me bonus interest for April, after keeping me on hold for half an hour, but refused to honor bonus interest for May and June even though it was in their own file that they had agreed to do so. Supposedly "Marketing" will call be back today if they change their mind and agree to honor their promise. I'm not holding my breath.

We haven't come to May and June yet, as far as I'm aware. And, it's well documented that you have to have the deposits in your account on the day that the bonus interest is paid.

Your post does not adequately make clear the problem, too.

Thanks,
Doug

In January Tangerine said they would pay me 2.75% interest on money in my savings account until July 1 so that I would leave my money there instead of taking advantage of a 3.15% offer from Simplii. Today they said they would NOT honor this. They threw me a bone, after keeping me on hold for half hour, and paid me 2.75% for April but wouldn't commit to paying 2.75% for May and June as they had previously promised. (The Simplii 3.15% offer expired at the end of February so, although a higher rate, I opted for 2.75% at Tangerine for a longer period to July 1 but now they won't honor it past April 30) Hope this clarifies my original post.

Su somethin similar i guess it was a bit of a misunderstanding but they have it set up to fool somewhat maybe thats why they pay the bonus interest at the end

So you never moved your money? Did you happen to get a screen capture showing your promotional interest rate of 2.75%? If so, then you've got a solid case of getting it. Otherwise, you might just have to forgo it.

Is it possible you can still take advantage of the offer at Simplii for the remaining months, or just transfer your funds out? Motive Financial has 2.80% in the Savvy Savings Account. sf-cool

Doug

My Tangerine Savings account shows exactly what offer I have and when it expires. It currently states "Special offer: Earn 3% interest on your Account until May 10, 2019." This is the offer that I've got few months ago when I called them.

Just for clarification, Simplii pays bonus interest at the end of the bonus period. Tangerine pays bonus interest at the end of each month. You get two interest entries; one for regular interest and one for bonus interest. My complaint is with Tangerine. They have it right in my file, the service rep I talked to today read it out to me; "Client called January 3 and was told she would receive 2.75% interest for 180 days." They know they agreed to that but today they say they won't honor it. Simple as that. No reason but "marketing" will call within 24 hours if they change their mind and decide to honor their promise. I know this is bizarre and that's why people here are having difficulty understanding.

It sounds like you've got it well documented, so you should be able to get satisfaction. sf-cool

That said, while Tangerine does indeed have some service issues with respect to their targeted rate offers and general wishy-washyness, you're right that we've never heard of this. I think it's a very unique circumstance.

Monitor it, and if you don't get what you're after, escalate your complaint following this process:

https://www.tangerine.ca/en/legal/complaints-process

Doug

Alexandre is 100% correct.

If you go online and log into your tangerine account.
Top right corner, select your name to see the drop down menu
Select profile and settings
Select bonuses and contests
Scroll down

All your current and past offers will be listed there.
At the time tangerine extended their 2.75% offer, it should be mentioned there, with a start date, end date and offer terms.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but in this case, the OP is having a strange issue with Tangerine renegging on a previously agreed to offer. 🙁

The story sounds like a human error: a conversation has happened, but client's Savings account was not updated with the offer.

Tangerine is one of the best if not the best for promo offers info: you always know what promo your account has and when will it end.

The lesson learned here: soon after over the phone conversation check what your account says, don't wait weeks and months.

That could very well be the case, but we also don't know if her account said that rate. It may have, but even if it didn't, according to the forum user, Tangerine read back to her their own previous guarantee of a certain rate (2.75% to July 15). It seems to me she's got a strong case to get that rate. sf-cool

I always prefer to do live chat with them online so there is proof whats being said / promised / confirmed.
Since OP did it thru a phone conversation, Tang will need to pull the tape to listen to the conversation and then rule on it. Judging from they honor April (goodwill gesture ?) and said No for May / Jun, think Tang will not honor unless its crystal clear rate was promised without any confusion during the phone call. Technically OP can freely move the money elsewhere so not a strong argument to just keep money there and demand the bonus rate.

Right, but it does add to an increasing volume of Tangerine become "bank-like," like the "Big 5" banks with respect to poor customer service and not honouring past commitments. It's sad, really, they had a good thing going, but I'm at the point I'm ready to say goodbye to them. Fundamentally, they don't listen, and action, their customers' feedback, and that's to their detriment. sf-cool

Well, it's fixed. Fingers crossed. After 20 minutes on hold the supervisor said they will, "manually input" bonus interest within 5 days of the end of the following months. They also requested that I NOT accept anymore bonus offers until after this one expires on July 11. I checked my "bonuses and contests" and it's not there so, I guess, that's what they mean by "manual input". I said I won't call unless the interest isn't there within a week of the end of each month but I'll be watching closely. Thanks everyone for your help. BTW, a great way to phone Tang and get an almost immediate call back is to log in, scroll down to the very bottom right and click "contact us" then click on "we can contact you", fill out the short form and send and they either answer right away or phone back within minutes.
