It's time to consider index funds. It's only going to get worse from here. 2% by the end of the year.

Same day, the answer has arrived in the form of email: "You’ll earn 3.10% interest from February 1, 2025 until April 30, 2025."

At least Tang said the 3.35% will apply to both EXISTING and new funds. I did a bit of a survey and there is really not much out there in the wild unless maybe you are a new client (maybe).

3.35% sounds pretty good to me. This is what I have been offered after my promo rate or 4.5% expires at the end of January:

Why you’ll love this Tiered Savings Rate:

Great promo rates for 9 months*
No need to shop around for rates
Always higher than the Posted Rate of 0.30%

Earn interest based on Account balance*

$0 to $49,999 - 0.35%

$50,000 to $99,999 - 0.50%

$100,000 to $499,999 - 1.00%

$500,000 and above - 2.00%

Once you've reached the next tier, your full balance earns that tier's rate.

How it works:

Start earning on February 1, 2025
Earn automatically on the balance in your existing Eligible Savings Account(s) as of January 12, 2025. RSPs, TFSAs and RIFs do not qualify. Please see offer terms for more info.

Take it up a level
Get an even higher Savings rate when your balance moves up a tier.

Promo interest paid monthly
Promo interest deposited every month for 9 months.

This tiered structure maxes out at 2% which is a terrible rate.

I am getting 4% on USD savings non promo rate with Wealthsimple. Federal reserve rate is still 4.25-4.5% . Correct me if I’m wrong.

Oh? I have a Wealthsimple USD account. I don't even know what rate I get. I have $0 in it though. I only created it recently. Do you have a link about this 4% rate?

We have joint account ( spouse is primary) currently on 5.25% promo offer expiring Jan 31.
I have a separate account, (not joint) that is on 5.0% promo expiring Feb 28
My plan was to transfer all the funds in the joint account over to my account for the month of Feb, expecting to get the 5.0% for the entire amount

However, when I inquired this morning, I was told that in their calculation of "new money", they add up both the joint and the single account.
Thus scuttling my plan
I'll have to look for greener pastures

My understanding is that they only add the $ for the primary account holders, so that if you are secondary on a joint account, that is not included. Did they confirm the opposite of that?

Well, here's the update:
I called back to question what I had been told by another agent previously
This time I am told exactly as you stated-- since I am secondary, the money in the joint account is not included
And the agent encouraged me to make the transfer!
I guess this shows : don't believe everything you hear!

Looks like I got the same offer except my interest rate is 3.35%.

"This will apply to the new money you brought to your Account(s) since November 5, 2024"
Looks like these now old funds will also earn the new rate.
