Tangarine has kept my 2.5% for quite a while. Interestingly, when I called Simplii, they didn't offer anything. I pulled out a big chunk. A couple of weeks later, I got a targeted 2.8% till April 30th with Simplii. I was also targeted from CIBC for 2.75% till Jan 30th. Looks like CIBC (which owns Simplii) is trying to get $$$$. On a side note, Kudos to Oaken: whenever I've moved money online from my savings account, it is deposited the next day in another bank. I haven't had my money move that quickly with anyone else!

I've never called Simplii to haggle, I don't recall them ever giving promos other than the blanket ones they issue periodically for everybody.

Spouse's promo rate ended yesterday, money's still there, tomorrow call 1-888-600-9890 (marketing) or the regular Tangerine number?

Please let us know which you called and if it helped to get a better-ish rate?

Is there a number they provided for the marketing team? Or did you ask them to call you? Maybe I should do the same...

No, they said they would have someone call.

My original post:
Is there a difference between getting an offer from Marketing vs Retention? I called as my current 2.75 rate ends Nov 30 and was told I was given that rate by Marketing so that's the department I would have to speak to about another promotional rate. Waiting to hear from them.

suburbs4life said

Yes there are. I was always in contact with retentions but marketing I believe issues the new deposit rates. Ie, attract you to deposit with them. Correct me if I am wrong but that’s what the retentions dept told me. After they gave me their sub par rate.

My money is moving out at the end of Dec. I’ve had enough of begging for better rates with 6 figure sums. They gave me 2.3%. I am going to try Motive. Their rate seems to be steady.

I was told by the person who called that they are one and the same and the term gets used interchangeably. But the agent I spoke to when I called to move my money out told me they are different and Marketing sets the rate but Retention is the one who speaks to the clients.

Moved my money out because the offer I got was for 2.3%.

Activate your special interest rate of 2.50% on your Savings by December 31, 2019.*

Just received that offer today.
My previous promo 2.75% ended Nov 30, 2019.
Thanks Tangerine, but I didn't used that 2.75% promo and will not activate 2.50%.

Out of curiosity, was/is your balance $0 when you received this offer?

Yes, my Tangerine balances are always below $1 for the last 2 years.

I only use Tangerine MC for 2% purchases and receiving monthly rewards deposited to my savings account (usually below $100) and I'm transferring that money immediately the same day to one of my external banks.

2 years!?? Wow. I'm curious to know if they offered you any promo rates at any time during those 2 years when you account was below $1?

Yes, I posted here around 2 years ago, that I'm not playing anymore Tangerine games/promos until they will offer fair interest rate to everyone, as ING did it.

Yes, I received almost all promo rate, as many people here, except one or two promo, as far as I remember.

I'm happily keeping my money in other banks/CU, such as Hubert, for example. I'm willing to support them and earn a bit less interest sometimes instead of playing unfair Tangerine games.

I don't blame you. I already pushed my $ over to Achieva CU, so I know the feeling.

I still have very big chunk of my savings with Hubert at 3.25% until April 2020.

I don't think, that I'm loosing anything, because I'm not accepting Tangerine promos.

I like simple, friendly and happy savings. Sometimes it less savings, but happy.

No offer from Tangerine, but I have 2.8% already with Simplii. I had started moving some funds out even before my previous 2.75% at Tangerine ended, but then I went away on vacation, and so haven't finished moving out funds even now, after the 2.75% ended 🙁 Slowly moving more out to Simplii.

3.25%, sounds like a GIC, not a savings rate, yes?

recd a email from Tangerine re earn 2.5% until Apr2020. New twist as it needs $50k min balance to earn bonus rate.
And when I click to activate, it says offer either already activated or expired...
Not impressed.

Yes, 1 year quarterly term deposit (GIC).
Right now 3.15% and in 2020 will be 3.25% for the last 3 months.

Surprised they haven't come up with any targeted TFSA promo yet.

Almost end of the year.

Some people pull out their existing TFSA at the end of December and shop around for better rates and recontribute in January.
