Didn't think I ate there often enough that it's a "recurring bill"

I wonder if McD's paid to have it included, as a marketing trick.
I doubt i've been more than a dozen times in my whole life, and usually because nothing much else is available.

When the Toronto Zoo first opened, McD's had a monopoly on food service. I don't know if that's still the case.

LOL! That's hilarious. sf-laugh

Yeah, I agree, Rick, that's definitely not a good sign when your spending habits fool Tangerine's still far-from-ready-for-primetime personal finance/spending categorization tool into treating it as a recurring bill payment.

In all seriousness, this is the main reason, actually, I don't use Tangerine for my day-to-day banking and why I've disabled the tool at Coast Capital Savings.

Cheers,
Doug

Out of curiosity, I read about Tangerine categories in the past. They claim the category type is passed on by the company itself. Perhaps wishful thinking on McDonald's part. 🙂

The recurring bill payments category is based on a flag on the transaction that is separate from the merchant category code on the transaction.

Not sure why the flag was set for those McDonalds transactions. The flag isn't set on my McDonalds charges. Tangerine MasterCard categorizes mine as Restaurants.
