I would be interested becoming a NEW Tangerine customer if I could open a saving account with Tangerine to get the 2.5% promotional rate.
I am not sure how to proceed, since Tangerine has a number of internal rules on how they offer the special rates to only selected customers. This forum seems to only cover existing customers.
Would you suggest that I just call Tangerine and asked for their best rate?
or
Open up a Saving Account for $1 and then call them for a special rate ?
or
Open up a Saving Account for $1 and then wait for the next offer period?
Thanks
Wayno
If you open a chequing AND savings account with them right now, you will get 2.40% (in their savings account) for 6 months, as detailed here: https://www.tangerine.ca/en/landing-page/save-faster/index09.html

Thanks Peter.. I called Tangerine and found out that I was an "existing customer"
( closed all my accounts over 2 years ago) so they stated I would NOT qualify
for the 2.4% offer. They were not interested in offering me anything over 1%.
In addition, I was Very Surprised to find that "all existing customers with closed accounts" had their Online Banking Account(s) still active.
I. e. I could log into my account without calling them to re-initialize the log-in.
Although they removed the link to my other bank for transfers, and had no accounts listed, I assumed the account was locked out. It should be!
I have decided to keep the account for awhile and see if they message me with an offer.

It sounds like they closed all your Tangerine bank accounts and left your client login still active.
Not sure Tangerine would send a rate offer to a customer who has no open bank accounts. Are there any offers and items under "My Tangerine" ► "Insights"?

The Tang representative stated accounts always remain active and keep referring to me as an "existing customer" during our conversion to justify the existence of the my online account and to also identify me as a customer.
I clarified that I was not an "existing customer" but a "former customer".
When I do close this account, I will ensure it is locked.
It is a standard IT security best practice to lock inactive accounts.
