1.6% is just not competitive, and the Bank of Canada rate has not moved in over a year if I remember correctly.
We can all do better at any number of financial institutions.
I hope everyone will make this point by moving their money if nothing better forthcoming by the 5th. You may not feel that you get a lot extra elsewhere, especially if you balance is low, but it's important to make the point with Tang/Scotia or else they will continue to walk all over us.

a paltry 1.6%. sad.
i moved out 95% of my funds on March 30th, processed on March 31st.
the last time i tried this tactic, i got diddly squat in terms of offers. CIBC's 1.75% new money offer on the esavings ended March 31st. It would be interesting if they have some spring savings promo to give more competitor threat to Tang. I'm really tired of the Tang game.
Let's see what Wheel of Fortune numbers we get this coming week.

There is no need to phone. Go to Menu on Left side of screen. Scroll down to "My info & Options", click for Dropdown Menu. Click on "My Contest entries & Bonuses". If you are getting an "Offer" it will be displayed. No "Offer" or Poor Offer move your money. My 3.25% expired March 31. On April 5 if no offer will move to EQ Bank.

Exactly. It may not be as early as April 5th, it could be next week. If an offer doesn't come by the end of next week, they're likely either (a) skipping this quarter and see how things shake out or (b) you didn't get an offer. 🙂

Here we are, April has arrived. My retention rate of 1.6% recently expired, and I have transferred the last few thousand to Alterna, to join a much larger amount that was dispatched in early January. Will now wait to see if I get a targeted offer, as I have heeded the suggestion, this time, to NOT call Tangerine for a potential retention offer. And maybe PC Financial will do a new money offer, although I'm not holding my breath; they are currently offering a 1 yr GIC @1.4%
Let me know if you get one - I'm hoping you do but, even if not, it may well take a couple quarters for you to fall off their "retention list" and be added to their "offer list". Stick it with Alterna Bank, or PC Financial if a "material offer" (i.e., 2.25% or higher) is given. PC Financial is known, historically, for their best non-registered savings "promos" and "new customer" acquisition "promos" in the spring. 🙂
Cheers,
Doug

Hello all,
If you go to:
https://tangerine.ca/en/landing-page/specialinterestrate/index.html
you will find what appears to be the dates Tangerine is going to use for the spring promo...
This URL, which I had saved, has been updated from the most recent Jan 5? - Mar 31 promo, and I assume it will be what Tangerine is going to use this quarter, to those who are targeted...

When in April do we usually anticipate Tangerine giving the new quarterly promo email? Most likely on April 5, 2017.

And, do they send it via internal messaging system when you log into your account or do they send it to your registered email address? Both. If you set "Marketing communication preferences" to email, you will receive an email message, but usually that will happen a few hours or days later.
I guess tomorrow is the big day, but I'm curious, what does it mean if I log into my account tomorrow and there is no email offer, does that mean I will not be offered any promo rate or should I call in instead?
Just curious what your thoughts are since this is my first time doing this after my new client promo ended in February. 🙂

If you will not be offered any promo rate tomorrow, you can wait until next promo (05 July 2017) or you can call in tomorrow and in this case you will get most likely 1.6% for 90 days.
If you will receive tomorrow "not good rate" 2.25% or below that, you may simple disregard that promo and not invest any money at all until July 5, 2017, when, most likely, you will get much better rate above 3%, according to my previous experience with Tangerine game.

So the offer is starts on the 5th, but the balances are calculated as of the 4th.
• On April 4, 2017, we’ll add up the balances in each of your Tangerine Savings Accounts and Tangerine TFSA Savings Accounts, to get your total balances per Account Type.
• From April 5, 2017 to June 30, 2017, you’ll earn your special interest rate on up to $500,000 in new deposits that raise your total Applicable Account Type* balances above what they were on April 4th. All other deposits will earn the applicable Posted Rate.
Keep in mind:
• Deposits to TFSA Savings Accounts are subject to Canada Revenue Agency contribution limits. Although up to $500,000 in new deposits to each of these Applicable Account Types* can qualify for your special interest rate, you’ll want to make sure that your deposits are within your contribution limits.
• Your special rate will only apply to joint Accounts where you are the Primary Account Holder on the Account.

I'm assuming based on reading previous posts, have little to no money in the account is the way to go right? I've already taken my money out and there is $0 in my savings and less than $50 in my TFSA with them.
Really curious to see what happens tomorrow. OR I can follow Winnie's advice (thank you) about deciding to not take whatever offer they give (whether through email offer or calling in) and waiting until July to see if they will offer 3+%.
Currently money transferred over to Achieva with 1.7%, if they only offer 1.6%, then definitely not worth the hassle to jump ship, but anything above that is worth it, and maybe waiting again for the 3% is definitely worth it.

I received no offer despite moving money out and not calling. Neither did any of my family members.Looks like Rick and BPwest are the lucky ones.
I did not understand that Rick or BPwest got an offer yet. I think they were sharing a "generic URL" showing that something was "cooking". I have looked at the previous offers I got from Tang, and they came in late in the day (i.e. not during the night). I did not get any offer at this moment.

Popped out of bed just like Christmas morning....did Tanga Claus bring me something good?.... 2.97%... thanks Tanga; hope you liked the milk and cookies
(I had been on a 1.6% retention rate last Dec 2016 that I had not used; i.e. I had moved all my money away from Tangerine)
Hope Tanga Claus is good to all the nice highinterestsavings.ca folk!!

Woke up and checked my Tangerine account and sure enough, I read this message, "You're earning a special rate! From Apr 05, 2017 to Jun 30, 2017, your interest rate on up to $500,000 of new money deposited in your Tangerine Savings Account(s) and Tax-Free Savings Account(s) made between Apr 05, 2017 and Jun 30, 2017 is 2.81%. (This Offer applies only where you're the primary Account holder)."
Looks like I'll be moving my $ from Achieva back to Tangerine, at least for the next 3 months.
One last question, as I haven't had time to quickly read through the T&C, does this mean the new rate has already been applied to my accounts or do I have to click or somehow let them know I accept? I asked because as Winnie above pointed out, you can disregard the given bonus rate offered and wait until next period where possibly Tangerine may offer better than 3%.

I got a 3% offer. Thanks for the advice everyone.
I moved funds out - with "pull" method - a few days ago after my last promo rate expired. I logged in today and there was a message there with the new promo rate. No call.
Do I have to do anything to "activate" this rate? Or, is it already applied to the saving account? pcf requires activation of new promo rates, so I wonder about Tangerine.
