Wow! Some people got PHONE CALLS with offers? I got told several times that only people who provided their E-mail would get promotions. So I always called in and usually got promotions. And I found that citing the specific offer from a competitor got me a better offer on a few occasions.

They seem to like you. Any idea what the secret is? They never offered me any special rate when I called weeks ago. Should I have a recent 6 figure balance to hope for a special/retention rate? Presently I have $1.85 and pulled my cash out 12 Months ago...
When I talked to the reg rep on the phone, he said he will offer 1%. I said thats too low. He then mentioned "you have a very decent size balance and ask if I want their marketing dept to call me, since they have access to offers that he doesnt". I said sure why not. They called next day.

And you got 'fantastic' offer of 1.2%??? Waste of time 'negotiating' with Tang. I just wait for their e-mail or check my account when forum members report new offer...

a little better that. Its not negotiation, spend 3mins total, and now I have another place to park $$ outside of Crappy Tire and Manulife. Tang offer covers USD which is what I am really after, so for me, its mission accomplished.
There are some who think of it as begging, I think of it as giving them a chance to "please me".

The rates today are:
- 1% if you accept from the frontline "junior" agents and
- 1.2% from the marketing person
Both above rates are on the entire balance not just "new" money.
If you got 1.3% it is most likely only on "new funds". Old funds get 0.10%.

‘Most likely on new funds’ but there r exceptions I suppose. I am one of the exception.

Promo rate ended yesterday, called today and after 40 minute wait agent came on and offer was 1% for 150 days.
Sad ... 40 minutes of your life you'll never get back.
Maybe it's time to consider doing what most of the
rest of us have done with Tang ... 'Go Elsewhere'.

Still something: 1% instead of 0.1% for the 40 minutes. 10X for the effort.
Not really, I doubt very much that anyone on this forum is stupid enough to leave money rotting at 0.1%
Even at 1% you're still behind the rate of inflation. For those that wish to waste even more time with Tangerine, a special secret agent may phone you with a special retention offer of 1.2%

I appreciate the concern but I neglected to clarify: my 40 minutes on hold were spent multitasking, it was actually a very productive time for me otherwise! And haven't yet decided if I'll actually make use of the promo rate.
Spouse spurned their promo rate about a year ago and has received zero offers from them since. So another opportunity to show her it's better to be nice, stay in their good books, it'll pay off somwhere down the road.

Bill be truthful, you were eating a sandwich.
Many times i leave the call on speaker phone and turn the volume up. Then i leave the room, when i hear the music stop, i yell out... hang on, hang on and rush back.

Just curious, but did your spouse have a very large balance when she spurned the offer.
Whenever I phoned, and didn't like the offer I would ask to transfer the balance to my bank account on file, usually around 300k.
Within a week or 2, I always received a much improved offer. Sometimes it was too late because the funds were already deployed elsewhere.
Needless to say, it's still a real PITA dealing with them. EQ rocks, like the original ING, a fair rate for everyone without having to beg, grovel and waste time every four or five months.
