i think you should be OK at Tang provided you get them to promise to hold the rat. You can record the conversation on your smartphone for verification.
Oaken is very quick with transfers. It shouldn't take more than a week, two weeks tops.

I need this rate to stay till April 10th. I have GICs maturing with Oaken on April 20. Hopefully Tangerine keep the offer for 2 weeks. We shall see!

Just proceed with online application & carry on as if you have enough funds in your Tangerine accounts (I am not sure about the linked accounts). You should be able to complete the application with some sort of reference number. Rates are locked in with 15 days to provide funding to your sourcing account.

This funding allowance is similar to sending a cheque in the mail scenario

when u apply online, you can post date the purchase so that is technically a rate guarantee I believe.

Do you know how this works exactly? If I fund my account within 15 days, does the GIC begin automatically? The next business day?

I'm not sure exactly. I only went that far. May be call in with the reference? Or may be there's further DIY steps on line?

what u guys think its a lot of cash to forgo look at tang calculator compare 1yr 3yr to 5 scroll down for calc
https://www.tangerine.ca/en/products/saving/guaranteed-investments/guaranteed-investment

ya a lot can happen in 5yrs i expect covid 20 21 22 etc annually itll become normalized like flu season. another unrelated shock to the system maybe

I split half to 180days and the other half to 1year, both are at 2.8%. But I see a thread that Vancity has 3%, but I'm not even a Vancity customer...yet.

I opened a GIC account 2 days ago before the fund had arrived. Now the money is there but I don't see the GiC account. I am on the phone now with Tang. Will let you know what happened with that.

Sad news. Tangerine dropped their rates down again on April 2, 2020 for the one year GIC to 2.2%. Kudos to you guys for acting so fast. I found out about it too late ! But prefer to try to signup now for the Van City 3% offer. That is a warning to all of us to act fast in this environment. I almost wonder if Tangerine made a mistake in the very first place ?

Just to follow on my last post. Looks like I did not complete the opening of my 1 year GIC account at 2.8% and that is why I could not see it. After talking with Tangerine they did not give me the 2.8%. My mistake on this one but they did offer me 3 month at 2.5% on my saving account.

And I didn't make it. I needed it to be there for more 3 days. Now I am stuck with a GIC which is already transferred to Tangerine. Luckily they have the 2.75% until end of June but I hate their $50 transfer out fee. We shall see how this goes. I might just end up buying $50 of their mutual fund everyday.
