I too do not appreciate Tangerine capriciousness. I still keep the account open though. One benefit I use is the ability to remove cash from an online bank in a hurry. With an ATM card I can remove up to $5000 per day, much higher than Simplii or other ATM options.

I don't worry much about whether Tangerine, EQ Bank or anyone else are competitive or not. I keep them on my "provider list" if they have good service and offering versatility. I keep micro $ there until they have something of particular interest to me like the current TNG 3.5% HISA.

I don't know, if you can take advantage of the promo rate of 3.5% why not? Just move your funds to Tangerine until the promo runs out and then move them elsewhere.

"Finally done with Tangerine"

What a Mickey Mouse B-S operation. I just tried to move a large sum out of Tang to HSBC for a 1.25% higher rate. As usual, I call, because it is over the daily limit. I had just conducted a similar transaction last week with no problem. My funds are off hold at midnight and I wanted to immediately transfer them at the same time. Again, I had just completed a similar transaction from Tang last Wed with no problems.

CSR (Jonathon) tells me that there is a new rule for large transactions. A supervisor must review all transactions within 2 business days. Conveniently, no supervisor is available. So, a return call is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Maybe they actually call. Meanwhile, I lose $35/day while Tang gets to hold onto my funds and play with them at my expense. I have accounts at most of the financial institutions listed on the forum

The only institutions that let me move larger sums hastle free are..

Simplii - it is never questioned but have used them forever and often use them as a middle man to move funds because my funds are immediately available there with no hold - imagine that.

Motive has been good for moving larger funds and so has Hubert.

Canadian Tire was got and then got tyrannical.

Motus holds funds for what seems like forever whereas Meridian is pretty quick at about 2 days for me.

Saven, scares me a bit because the tech is just not user ready so I limit transactions there.

LBC digital - both divisions seem to have forever holds but just recently started to solicit larger deposits over 500k

Tangerine plays too many games for my taste and I have been solicited successfully only a few times and the account goes dormant periodically but is always recoverable.

What I like about Tangerine is that its checking account comes with checkbook. Just recently I needed to transfer large amount to Meridian CU for their HISA promo: I wrote Tangerine cheque to myself and deposited it to Meridian.

On the other hand, depositing funds to Tangerine using the BNS ATM's is limited to $99,999 per transaction. Also, BNS ATM's are not the most user friendly.

I just opened Tangerine app on my smartphone and started "Deposit Cheque" process. It told me I can deposit a cheque for up to $2,000,000. Good enough for me.

I'm not sure my 15 year old cellphone can handle the app and the photos.

HSBC called and told me that there is a maximum daily limit of $7K withdrawal electronically and $10K weekly. I can't believe such nonsense.

I called up some old 2020 HSBC statements and see that I can move money back and forth to Tang over $100K and there was no service charge for it. She said that Tang might be an exception, since it is an online bank, but said that the limit exists for transfers between big banks. I'm going to deposit a chq with them and hope that I can do as I did previously without any problems or charges.

The $7K and $10K limits apply to e-Transfers.

Yes, I that was explained to me. However, I moved 100K+ back and forth between Tang via Tang links with e-Transfers in previous years.

Edit: just got a call from HSBC and they confirmed that as long as the transfers are initiated by/via Tang e-links, there are no limitations or charges from HSBC. Bank links cannot be created from HSBC; members can only create new 'Payees' (i.e. utility companies, CRA, insurance) and send them money like paying bills.
