I deleted the external link to my Simplii chequing today and thought I could easily add my Simplii Savings account like in the past. It gave an error and told me to call Tangerine. When I called, they said that because I'm located outside of Ontario, I would have to send a void cheque and a letter with my name and client number and the request to add the external link due to recent regulatory issues. Said there was no known ETA before I could add it myself again.
Just wanted to let everyone know so you don't miss out on promos like I will 🙁 Think it might be why they keep holding my funds now too 🙁

I suspect that has something to do with the amount of micro-deposits given to you. Once it exceeds a certain threshold in a given period of time, that will trigger a legitimacy/authemticity auditing from the bank.
Your theory seems plausible, if true, it would have been nice if Tangerine had been straight forward with the OP as to the reason for their inability to add a new external account. It makes me wonder what the threshold could be.

Same problem - deleted an external account, tried adding new one, went thru entire form only to be told at the end that it doesn't work and to call Customer Service. There they said I have to fill out a PAD form from the external institution, print it and mail to Tangerine, and that it would take 5 business days to process. So likely 2 weeks total. Welcome back to the 1980s!
Doubt it's related to too many micro deposits -- I haven't done an external link for over a year. Probably the fact that I'm in BC and not Ontario.

The 'change address' work-around solution does work. How does a simple and quick change of address differ from the change-of-PIN one might use before allowing FLink access to a bank log-in screen? I change it before I ever use FLink and change it right back, afterwards. Haven't triggered any security issues, thus far.
