Just letting people know:
When I advised Tangerine I wanted to transfer my entire savings account balance out since my promo rate is expiring November 30, they offered me 3.95% for 150 days. I said I would continue with the transfer as I can get better rates elsewhere and I find the offer low considering I know others have been offered as much as 6% lately. He didn't say much to that but went ahead with the transfer. Not sure what this will mean in terms of any potential new offers coming up, but I've got other plans for the funds so not too worried.

lol 3.95% for 6 months is kind of sad.
Keep in mind that Tangerine (as with all other FIs) see new money as more valuable. I'd recommend calling back on Friday to see if they can do something (I wouldn't even mention the ludicrous offer from today). Just mention the amount you're willing to bring over -- naturally more is better (up to a point).

Similar experience here
I called in to get my entire balance moved before Nov 30, they first asked why?
(duh!)
Then suggested they had other propositions to offer-- but I just cut him off, and requested him to complete the transfer. (I already had other plans in mind-- and I was quite confident they did not involved Tangerine)
(Until the next promo-- or course!)

.
There's Lots of Moolah leaving Tangerine right now ... it's the 'Great Flushing' of The Tangerine SA Pond.
From what I read, their CSRs have instructions to try to convince us to keep our $$$ with them, so I'm guessing Tangerine is still hungry.
Expect another 'Special Offer', sometime next week.

They've been dropping their rates on everything. They've gone from the best to the worst FI for savers almost overnight.

I stopped calling 2 years ago. No point calling when always guarantee a subpar offer I wont accept, and a slap in the face. 3.95% is slap on both cheeks actually.
There are other choices.
lol I know how you feel...I call occasionally. Yes it's annoying, but I've come to understand that making money can be annoying sometimes. And in my work I've suffered far greater humiliations at times than having to ask Tangerine "please sir, can I have some more"?

3.95% for an online savings account is decent. That's ahead of EQ Bank's Savings Plus account at 2½%, Hubert's Happy Savings account at 3.6%, and Alterna Bank's eSavings account at 2¼%.
If one already banks at Bank of Montreal, Canadian Western Bank, CIBC, or Royal Bank, then one can move the funds into one of their cashable variable rate GIC's for even a better return while waiting for the next offer:
BMO Variable Rate GIC (4½%)
Canadian Western Bank floating rate redeemable GIC (4.60%)
CIBC Variable Rate GIC (4¾%)
RBC Prime-Linked Cashable one-year GIC (4¾%)

Norman, thanks to you I am definitely going to use RBC's prime linked cashable 1 year GIC as my HISA back up. I learned the other day that you can do partial redemptions (min $1k), which is ideal -- no need to collapse it and restart at a potentially lower prime rate. Conversely, if prime goes up I can refresh and get the higher rate. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.

A few more caveats for RBC cashable GICs:
The rate of interest on Interest Rate-Linked GICs is calculated based on a discount from the RBC prime interest rate. The RBC prime interest rate is a reference rate for determining interest rates on Canadian dollar commercial loans in Canada and is subject to change. The RBC prime interest rate can be found at rbcroyalbank.com/rates/prime.html. You may obtain the current interest rate applicable to your Interest Rate-Linked GIC by signing into Online or Mobile Banking, by making inquiries at your local branch, or by calling us at 1-800-463-3863.
2) No interest is paid if cashed within 29 days and a $25.00 administration fee will apply.
3) Must maintain a minimum of $5,000 at all times. Minimum withdrawal amount is $1,000.
4) If the Royal Bank Prime decreases, this interest rate will also decrease.
