I am wondering if it would be a good idea to have a subforum dedicated to USD accounts.
Periodically, there are questions about them, and the information gets buried under other headings.
There are topics for this under Hubert and HSBC , for example.
I hesitate to lengthen the list but it might make it easier for people to find what they want.

I wonder too if we could move the topics for FIs that are no longer competitive (such as HSBC) to the archived section, perhaps amending the title to add "or are no longer competitive". They can always be moved back up again if they improve.

I like the idea of a USD sub-forum.

I've been considering moving the HSBC forum, although I don't want to make the same distinction in the forums about financial institutions not being competitive as is made for the comparison chart.

I understand.
On the other hand, we don't have forums for any of the Big Six, presumably because they are not competitive. A line has been drawn. It's just a question of where to draw it. I doubt that anybody has found any information that they could implement on the HSBC forum for years.

the question is whether they offer "high interest", since that's the name of the website. Tangerine squeaks in because they so often have special offers, as does PCF.

Here's a thought.
Right now, we have, I think, 21 FIs with their own forums, and in every likelihood there will be more to follow.

Most of us will not use more than 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 because the rest simply don't measure up as well at any given point in time, and, really, how many bank accounts does anyone need?

So, how about a "Top 10" list, and, then, underneath that, an "also-ran" list (by some name or other) for people who need to know about the rest of them for some reason. I appreciate that some may have certain features that some people value even though they may not be of widest appeal, so they would still be there.
Membership on the "top ten" list could fluctuate as the rates improve or deteriorate, at the discretion of the moderator. Maybe it would give some of them an incentive to improve!

I think this is feasible because those of us who are here regularly know which institutions are the best deal, and I don't think there are more than 10 of them. Off the top of my head, I would say Hubert, Accelerate, EQ, Alterna, Peoples, Tangerine (only as long as it continues to regularly do special offers), Oaken, PCF (with the same condition), CDF, Ideal (must be kept at least until the current offer is removed, which it surely will be). The number, 10, need not be fixed. If many are doing a great offer, then we can have more, perhaps call it "best bets". And if there are not enough good offers, the list could be shortened.

There are clearly going to be more of these kinds of institutions as the regulations for CUs change. We need to find some way of managing them so that we are not repeatedly wading through info that is irrelevant.

A long-term solution could be to allow people to create their own customized views / lists / topic subscriptions. But that sounds like that would apply to a listing of the latest discussions, not so much for the main listing of all forums, which users can just browse through.

Mind you, now that I look at the main forum page at /forum, it would seem useful to just "archive" any sub-forums that don't have any recent posts in the past year, which would currently apply to HSBC and Outlook Financial.

Yes, auto-archive could work, especially if a new post to the forum in question created auto-revival, automatically bringing it back up to the "current " section. But that may not be technically possible.
