Hypothetically if there was a poll option I have another question. Is it fair to allow a very very amateur blogger to continually stray away from the profiles and articles written and prolifically over run the site trying to take ownership of something he doesn’t own just to see his name in the “bright lights”?
There should be a feature that limits everyone to a max of 2 posts/day.
Tangerine....Canada's best bank. LBC.............Canada's 2nd best bank.
Hubert.....worst bank in Canada.

Why? Are you going to limit free speech? What is somebody wants to contribute to few different topics? (S)he has to wait another day to do that??? Nonsense. As long as one can provide meaningful contribution, one should be able to write as many posts as needed. Trolls should be blocked and replies like 'OK', 'Me too', 'I like that'. 'exactly' and similar should be filtered out as they do not enhance our financial knowledge but they are just noise.
I see not point of those nonsense 'likes' some 'social networks' have. What is the point of those??? Do I care if you like or do not like my post? Do I get additional Zellers points? Not at all. If you have something to say, write few sentences why do you not agree so I can see different point of view, think about and reconsider.

This site has rules. And is privately owned.
What is somebody wants to contribute to few different topics? (S)he has to wait another day to do that???
What would you consider to be an acceptable amount of posts initiated per day? Excluding replies to other posts and any posts initiated by you.
As long as one can provide meaningful contribution, one should be able to write as many posts as needed.
That does not always happen. I checked last night and one member had replied to 36% of the last 50 posts. And I really doubt if many of them were helpful/meaningful to support the original subject.
Trolls should be blocked and replies like 'OK', 'Me too', 'I like that'. 'exactly' and similar should be filtered out as they do not enhance our financial knowledge but they are just noise.
Limits would hopefully discourage what you are saying.

I don’t think any one disagrees that “likes/dislikes” are NOT necessary.

I disagree even if I believe there are some prolific buffoons here that add little substance. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
You can fix that by tagging them as 'adversaries' in the Profile section. Every discussion forum software that I know of has a feature to Ignore (hide from view) the posts of members one doesn't like. Life is too short to be aggravated by such folk.
Best I can tell is Peter (and perhaps others) do a pretty good job of eliminating inflammatory or pointless drivel.

Thank you, Eva, for your thoughtful contribution to the discussion. You make excellent points. As I stated in my opening and subsequent posts in this thread, I am indifferent to a post rating system but wanted to solicit user feedback on such a solution based on another user's suggestion in another thread. That user has since clarified that he was looking more for the idea that forum members be given the ability to attach polls/survey questions to discussion posts.
This thread has since morphed into the idea of placing posting limits on users, which I would completely agree with you is not necessary. One person may want to contribute to 5-10 threads in a given day and then not make a contribution for days, weeks, months, or even years.
People should make use of the "Buddies and Adversaries" tool that Peter has included in the forum software, if they wish to "tune out" certain users.
With that, I really have nothing further to add to this thread, but thank everyone for their contributions to the discussion.
Cheers,
Doug

Sorry I meant 2 posts per week,(S)he has to wait another week to do that!!! Or you could use your other account (handle) to post twice more.

Tried that....access denied to 75% of the posts. This is the only discussion forum (that I know of) that has that problem.

A post rating system in not necessary, but I use the thumbs up(agree) and thumbs down(disagree) feature in other forums. I find it handy and easier than posting I agree replies. Rating via pos vs negs is just a counter for a quick poll of the members that bother to participate. Don't see the harm.
