What's weirder for me is to see certain members constantly changing their member name (just happened on the same above cited thread which maybe the 3rd or 4th or 5th time that same individual has done that) - I think THAT option should be eliminated Peter. If they want to make a change they should have to put in a request.

Guess that's one way of looking at it, Doug, but I disagree. I think the only thing that has to stop is whatever Peter says has to stop. He's done a great job overall, plus it's his site so actually he does whatever he wants with zero requirement to answer to anyone. Don't like it? Don't play. That's my view.

Yes, I don't dispute the fact that he owns the site and does a lot of great work to keep it running. However, I feel that, since this site is built largely on the back of these forums and the community that supports it, freedom of speech - with few exceptions - should prevail. In the past (call it 2012 and prior), Peter took very much a hands off, laissez-faire approach to managing the forums, stepping in when hostilities between members had boiled over, when there was unnecessary and useless spam, and people violating the rules of posting referral codes on the forums. That was it. There does seem to be a trend toward heavy handed moderation, which I don't respect and dislike greatly. 🙁
Top It Up, on member name changes, I loathe forums that don't let you change your member name. The forum community is wise to members that have changed their names (their member IDs do not change). Their posting style is hard to change, but if it changes for the better, why not afford them that new identity? If they resume old ways, it will be quickly spotted and called out.
Cheers,
Doug

Exactly. Administrators have to please the majority, not the minority no matter how loud they scream. Peter does an excellent job at managing this forum in my opinion
Edit... I just went and read that whole thread and 90%of the replies are discussing a disability of another member... Which really didnt need to be done in my opinion... If I was Peter I would have deleted alot more posts on that thread.

Airing my one cent.
Peter and the moderators in my opinion, do an excellent job here on this forum. And i being one who gets at least 10% of my posts deleted, sometimes within seconds of me hitting the enter button. Honestly, it doesn't bother me in the least. My humour is twisted and it can be subjective and i know that it may offend others... i think it's a result of all the rye i drink.
As for changing your user name. Writing style is apparent, as stated by Doug. My spelling and sentence structure would give me away no matter what i called myself... a rose is a rose.

That's what I'm saying, SG, in that case. I specifically apologized for my own earlier misunderstanding vis-a-vis CAPS LOCK to Chuck, but also apologized, on behalf of JenE and Loonie, for their inappropriate (in my view) replies yet their cheeky replies remained with no condemnation. I also tried to pose a potential solution to alleviate the misunderstanding Chuck frequently encounters, but instead my reply was deleted and not JenE's or Loonie's. That's not procedural fairness at all! 🙁
Besides which, why did it need to be deleted anyway? If anything need be taken out, which, in my view, it didn't, Peter should've just edited my post.
Cheers,
Doug

I think Peter is doing a great job. I have been here for years and never had any complaint against him regardless of my comments (not posts) being deleted or moved, etc. It has been always for the best of our small friendly online community.
For the name change, I actually tried changing mine couple years ago and couldn't do it on my own. Had to message Peter to help me get it updated. Not sure if it is allowed to be done now but it wasn't before. Also people randomly changing their name is kind of weird. Are they hiding something? Escaping from some posts / comments they put? Well! Maybe they shouldn't be here.

I've noticed this too.
As far as I know, it's the third time for this particular individual, but I may have missed some.
He/she changes the name every time he/she is criticized for giving wrong info or saying inappropriate things. Rather than admit it, they pretend to be a new member, so that they can continue without people remembering - or so they think.
I don't find this sort of thing acceptable.
About changing your display name, I don't recall the exact limitations before, but you can set that separately from your username. Maybe it was a user interface bug before that was blocking people from changing it. I only just found the setting to disable that completely, and I'm going to leave that open for now.
That user in question has been banned for creating multiple accounts, however.
As for the original topic, Doug's reply will not be reinstated, the issue from that thread was addressed, and that thread has been closed.

With respect, Peter, you did not specifically address why my post was deleted and not JenE's, Loonie's, and other posts that mocked Chuck and his use of CAPS LOCK? My post was just trying to apologize for my own misunderstanding and the shortcomings of JenE, Loonie, and others...I see nothing wrong with that. Even still, why delete it (mine), and not modify it?
As far as changing usernames goes, this is still possible, correct? Your response is somewhat ambiguous.
I do think we should always have the ability to change usernames and then address users' abusing that feature on a case-by-case basis as they arise.
Thanks,
Doug
