Hi Peter,

I have an issue with my email notifications. I use a site monitoring tool call Blogtrottr that identifies new posts on this site. It affords me a bit more flexibility to identifying all the topics of interest without having to follow each one individually.

I notice that it is now capturing the following text at the top of every email notification:
"Read all about Tangerine Bank, Hubert Financial, EQ Bank, Motive Financial, Alterna Bank, and more "

The problem it presents is that when I search my email for a specific bank, it is now pulling up all the emails with this text if I search for one of the 5 FIs listed, so I cannot filter my emails anymore like I used to.

I'm not sure when this started, but based on my backlog of email notifications, it has been a couple of months at least... I am only noticing this now.

Do you know where this text is found and would it be possible to alter it or even remove it?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks kindly.

I use the "Subscribe" feature of http://www.highinterestsavings.ca to monitor activity of topics I'm interested in. Easy to turn on SubcribeOn.png and off SubcribeOff.png without that extra stuff you're getting via that "Blogtrottr" thingy you're using ...

I am aware of Subscribe... Blogtrottr gives me more flexibility... It can auto-pick up on new threads without me having to Subscribe. This site does not have a way to do that so I would often miss good and even important new discussion threads.

That text is the suffix of the HTML title on the homepage and the meta description on the homepage only. Some version of that text has been on the site since it started. (I remember it said "ING Direct" at one time.)

Because it's only on the homepage, I don't think it's something that should change specifically for Blogtrottr. Perhaps this is a recent change on their end that they could toggle with a setting?

Ah ...

I prefer to come here routinely and scan for new topics I might be interested in and topics I might not have previously thought I might be interested in.

To each is own ...

Blogtrottr does it for me. This way I NEVER miss anything new.

If there was a way to subscribe to sub-forums instead of just individual threads, that would address my issue. As it stands, it is too much work to come here just to check. Blogtrottr does a great job for me.

I see that now on the homepage.

So this html suffix has not changed recently? Is/was it updated manually or auto-generated by some algorithm, since you say it once said "ING Direct"?

No, it has not changed for many years. I update it manually, and I think I've only done that once in 16 years.

Thanks for the reply. Upon further investigation, it seems like Blogtrottr has been picking this up all along (for years). It seems like because I have a huge backlog of emails recently (almost 2 months worth), I am noticing the effect, whereas before, I reviewed emails more frequently, so the volume was smaller, and so the effect on searching wasn't obvious.

Thanks for the insight.

thanks for the suggestion.

BTW, "Wachete offers a free forever version, with the caveat that you can only monitor five static web pages, and you can only check every 24 hours.", otherwise it is a paid service.

Not a convenience I am willing to pay for, as I only use it for this site, and there are 48 pages I have set up to be monitored. But thanks.

BTW, Blogtrottr allows unlimited hourly monitoring, for free. Hard to beat.
