Looks like they've listened to various commentary from personal finance columnists and forums! Excellent! Tangerine Email Money Transfers are fine but their new online banking interface is full of bugs and problems and their statements are increasingly lacking in transaction narrative detail.

No idea on the free cheque orders. Nothing in the headline features or posted Service Charges and no indication that they cost money. Nothing indicated that they cost money, though. Also, noticed existing customers no longer have to call in to "enroll" in promotional savings offers so that's a plus. No idea about the 1-day transfer delay either.

Even if they limited it to 1 free book of 50 cheques every 1-2 years, that's still a huge benefit over Tangerine and I might be enticed to close my Tangerine accounts. 🙂

Cheers,
Doug

Interestingly that I wanted to login to my PC Financial which took me to https://www.simplii.com/en/home.html
Hope their customer service be better than PC.

It is just a name and logo change.

The accounts are still with the same "direct banking division of CIBC"! sf-laugh

The glitches seem to be relatively minor and any "outrage" was likely limited to the glitchy re-launched mobile app and long hold times, which have both been corrected. 🙂

I've also confirmed that cheques are indeed still free & unlimited, from Simplii's eClient Communication team member Nayan, who handles web chats and is separate from their Telephone Banking Contact Centre. The representative also advised that eClient Communication team members are limited in the information that they can provide, i.e. account opening verification procedures, which Telephone Banking must answer. That's really my only concern. Other than that, it's really compelling and the CIBC ABM network is again larger than Scotiabank's. sf-cool

Cheers,
Doug

Oh okay. Then nothing is changed. I don't remember the details of the transition but are they going to send a new debit card? Also, this sucks as no more access to free ATM machines at Loblaws stores.

Yes, new Simplii Financial debit cards will be sent out between now and April 2018.

There is an image of the new debit cards in the news release Simplii Financial officially opens for business - offering Canadians straightforward, no-fee daily banking and great rates.

Dang, still no embossed name on their debit cards and it looks like they may have switched debit card vendors. Look at the smaller than normal RFID chip. Instead of Giesecke and Devrient (G+D), which Tangerine switched to in April 2014 when they formally launched the "Tangerine" brand, I'd be willing to bet, based on the card design, that they are using Gemalto (which was Tangerine's old card vendor). So, it could mean the text like "good thru" and the card's expiry date is not embossed, which kind of sucks as I find those cards more prone to breakage. 🙁

Cheers,
Doug

Tangerine has, unfortunately, lost touch with its client base and, since Scotia merger, has been drifting away from the very principles that made ING Direct a success in Canada.

Never mind Simplii, Even some of Big 5 offer free Interact money transfers. Tangerine just won't let go of "our EMT is also free" mantra, despite multiple and repeated messages from customers that nobody cares for their free EMT because it involves a very complicated process for the receiver and can take up to 2 business days to process (which could translate to 4 calendar days if it falls on a weekend). Does the Interac fee generate them that much revenue that its worth for them to dig their heels in and not let go? The good thing is that there is an alternative for customers and thats the most important thing.

They have a forum called "Tangerine Listens" and when you read through it, you see the same complaints over and over again. The question is, does Tangerine really listen? I haven't seen any of the most voiced suggestions acted upon or implemented. No wonder people have no faith in corporate surveys.
