I'd like to open a Saven account but want a feel for the timelines and experirnce. This assumes one is successful witb the Transunion signup process.
If you were successful:
a. is the account opened immediately after the signup process? If not how long after and does anything need to be mailed or emailed in?
How long was it to link to an external FI?
Any other experience factor to know?

The account becomes immediately available once the registration process is complete.
At Saven Financial, we have partnered with Flinks to give our members a fast, seamless and secure way to connect with other banks to pull the account information (route, transit and account number) needed to transfer money.
After you are a member of Saven, there are additional online banking options for moving money in and out of your Saven accounts:
- Interac e-Transfer
- Cheque deposit
- Through Flinks

Saven=Terrible Service. Recently, would not let me open an account - although I am already a First Ontario customer for over a year (aka their 'parent' company) + currently have all my paycheques deposited there each fortnight. I have never had any debts, and am a Canadian permanent resident. First attempt online ended with automated request that i resubmit application. Did again, with same result. Then, when I contacted them about this specific application I got a call from Customer Service who rudely said they wouldn't open account (based on application information)...but would not give a specific reason. I just wanted to purchase a 5 year GIC with Saven, not borrow or anything else- so what is their problem? With other credit unions, such as Oaken, I had no problem with opening an account and purchasing a GIC. Are Saven anti-Canadian permanent residents? or, just don't want new customers? Or, are staff incompetent? And Saven, please answer here (as I see you have done before) -, thank-you!

Many FI these days (online ones) bundled a savings account with GICs for you to deal with them directly. However, during the opening process, there may be separate requirements for these two products.
If all you care is the rate of a GIC term, it may be better off to go thru a deposit broker. You only have to establish your identity/profile with the broker once to access multiple FI offerings (but probably won't be Saven though) ... saves time/effort for joint GICs particularly.
My two cents

Saven Financial... Account Opening Nightmare has accounts of others who ran into issues.
Saven needs to verify identity and will reject applications with info that doesn't match what is in the applicant's credit bureau file or the info in the file doesn't satisfy FINTRAC requirements.
