So...
Having been foiled in my first attempt to cash in my LIRA in a timely fashion, I decided to do it in 2018 instead.

I made another appointment at the branch in April of this year.

This time, I was guided to a totally different section of the building, on the second floor, where someone else dealt with my request. sf-surprised

The man I met with was not entirely sure of the details of the process. He had to phone someone outside the branch who specializes in this, but he went through the process as instructed and informed me the cheque would be in the mail within a week or less.

And, lo and behold, the cheque did arrive within a week!

I have no idea why the process was completely different on my second attempt, but I'm glad to be done with it. What a nuisance!

Overall, I would give Scotia a B+ because the second fellow did his job well (except for trying to tell me there was no fee for closing the LIRA, when I knew perfectly well that there was). I can't give them an A because of the inexplicable runaround the first time.

I am really glad to be done with Scotia!!sf-smile
