Saw an offer of 5.10% for 90 days from RBC for new clients that open an e-savings account. Has anyone here opened one of these accounts before? If so, how did you transfer your money into this account? I called, seems like the don't have a clue about much. Customer Service tells me CIBC owns Tangerine, that's why I could link my accounts and transfer $$ that way. I said, if I can't link my accounts, how do I transfer $$. She says by etransfer which has limits. I said it would take me 30 days to transfer $$ to them and it's worth the hassle. Any help here would be appreciated. It's a good rate, the same as I'm getting right now at Tangerine. Duca is only 4%.

Don't have to be a new RBC client. Current 5.10% offer is for any RBC client who opens their first RBC High Interest eSavings account by December 30, 2024 3 pm EST.

The RBC High Interest eSavings account can receive direct deposits and pre-authorized debits. So, one can link to the account at Tangerine Bank or EQ Bank. However, there is a $5 charge for each received pre-authorized debit.

One can also add the account to one's RBC bank card and deposit cheques to the account at an ATM.

One can't link external accounts at RBC. RBC only provides access to Customer Automated Funds Transfers to business banking clients.

I accepted this offer in the summer when it was 5.5%. I linked my Tangerine checking account to my RBC checking account and then moved the funds from the RBC checking to the RBC HISA. If you link your Tangerine account to the RBC HISA and do the transfer RBC will charge you $5 per deposit. You could also do an RBC mobile check deposit through the app but if you have an RBC checking account remember to deposit the funds in that account to avoid paying the $5 per deposit fee to your HISA.

Customer Service tells me CIBC owns Tangerine

Wow, RBC's customer service sucks. Tangerine has always been owned by Scotiabank (they bought out ING Direct Canada in 2012, and part of the deal was that they had to cease using the ING brand).

Don't really need an RBC chequing account unless one will be doing lots of withdrawals. Just pay the $5 for the occasional withdrawal from the eSavings account.

There's no fee for deposits to the RBC High Interest eSavings account. I've deposited cheques by ATM directly to the account. I pushed funds many times from Hubert directly to the eSavings account. No fee for the deposits.

Someone suggested before to open an RBC Day to Day Savings account that has one free debit per month and no monthly fee. Debits are $2 each after the one free per month.

One could transfer funds free from eSavings to the Day to Day Savings account. One could then withdraw or pull funds from the Day to Day Savings account.
