I'm pretty well maxed out re CDIC coverage in the various FI's I have accounts with. So, yesterday I was looking at RBC special rate GIC's. I see they had a one year @ 4.25%...so I transferred funds to my meager little chequing account with them. Money was there today, so I went on-line to purchase the GIC and it ended up I got the one year for 4.5%!! Got the print out as proof!!

It's the five year one they advertise @ 4.5%. sf-laugh

Looks like RBC Royal Bank has these special non-redeemable GIC rates available through their online banking:

1 year 4.50%
2 year 4.55%
3 year 4.65%
5 year 4.75%

Their public GIC Rates page has these lower special rates:

1 year 4.25%
2 year 4.35%
5 year 4.50%

Strange. I just signed in to my on-line banking for RBC. Went to their GIC rates and they just still showed 1yr@4.25%;2yr@4.35%&5yr@4.5%.

Regardless, for RBC to have a 1yr @4.5% seems incredible to me. I have found they rarely have competitive rates. But then, I seldom look at them.sf-embarassed

The higher special rates are shown when one signs in and goes through the online banking workflow to purchase a GIC.

I too can't see the higher rates through the usual GIC rate pages.
