I have now successfully linked my PT account through the EQ app.

The institution number used was 621

The transit number used was 16001

I did this because PT requires cheques in order to link accounts and I didn’t want to be bothered with acquiring cheques for all my accounts, and having to move money out through my main checking account and then to another HISA is too burdensome and slow.

The EQ linking system of micro deposits is fast and simple.

You shouldn't really need to send a cheque to link an account to PT - I didn't have to. I phoned them and they sent me a few (I was thinking ahead) forms titled "External Account Link Authorization." There's no form number I can find, just that title.

Once I have the Institution and Transit numbers, and my appropriate account numbers, I fill one out and send it in. I usually phone in after a few days to check that all's well and then do a test. If I'm in a hurry, I visit their office (I'm in Vancouver - not everyone has that option, I know) and do it all at once. I don't know if their office is seeing anyone at the moment, but I did visit them earlier in the pandemic and found reduced staff willing to sign papers.

I will mention that I am more than willing to spend a stamp to avoid using on-line banking.

When I say “send a cheque”, I mean any type of paper or even scanning a document. Everything should be able to be done on a computer or mobile device.

The post was about linking PT from another FI, not linking other accounts from the PT side.

It should also be noted that pushing money into PT has no holds while pulling into PT is 5 or 7 days hold, I can’t remember or don’t want to remember!

My point was for people who didn't have a chequing account to link to, and thus no cheques.

So was mine. The form you requested, filled out, and sent back in, is the same as a cheque. Linking accounts should be enabled through completely digital means.

Yip - has the info. But does not require a chequing account.

Your point? Cheques can be acquired for savings accounts also. I will reiterate that the thread was about linking an account through an external FI without submitting documents or contacting anyone.
