Their bylaws and/or credit union policies are such that they're limited to Ontario residents only, correct?

I'm fine with them having a forum, possibly a "profile," and mentions in the "promos" page, provided the appropriate caveats that they're limited to Ontario residents only are in place (and it should make clear that these are company-specific limitations, not provincial legislation, since Meridian Credit Union accepts non-Ontario residents). 🙂

Cheers,
Doug

Doug,

I questioned the CSR about that last year, while arranging a transaction of my own. I was told that they do accept "some" out of Province clients, though the selection criteria were not clear.

Perhaps a call on behalf of the Forum to Kathryn Tucci, assistant manager, who sometimes acts as a telephone CSR might clarify their policy for Forum members.

Thanks for that clarification, Nehpets. This selection criteria indeed seems haphazard, sort of how DUCA still doesn't have an Ontario residency requirement to open a new GIC but does for a savings account. I also note that Omnia Direct doesn't have a savings account. Where do matured GIC proceeds go? To linked external bank account? I guess that's only viable in the context of non-registered accounts.

Cheers,
Doug

From my own experience with Omnia, proceeds of matured GIC's are deposited into the account from which the original deposit came, unless instructed otherwise at the time of maturity, if different from the instructions at the time of purchase. Another option would be to roll over into a new GIC.

Instructions are taken at the time of the initial GIC deposit and are noted on the certificate.
