Just received an e-mail to say GIC rates are decreasing as of Sept. 9th to:

5 yr 2.5
4 yr 2.4
3 yr 2.3
2 yr 2.2
18 month 2.1
1 yr 2.0

So out of curiosity, I checked BMOIL to see how far out I need to go to get 2.75% compounded in a provincial strip bond. 2031 (14+ years) for Manitoba, 2033 (16+ years) for Ontario. If a 5 year GIC makes sense for you, you still have a week to buy it.

Note that today is the last day that you can get 2.75% for a 5 year GIC at Oaken, registered or non-registered. According to GlobeInvestor, the next highest is 2.50% at Canadian Tire Bank.
