This is strange. I never get any notifications from Oaken about having logged in. Perhaps something needs to be turned on in my settings? Anyone else like me? Hubert used to send them all the time (seem to have stopped, actually). I am puzzled.
Yes you need to turn on. I believe this has been government legislated. There are choices and possibly some are mandatory.
Does any one know if it is mandatory? If yes what alerts are mandatory and when must it be in place by? My hunch based on a People’s Bank login….is less than 90 days away.

I just tried to login to EQ account from desktop and they emailed me verification code that expires in 10 minutes. 5 minutes later - email still hasn't arrived.
Managed to login to EQ account from smartphone app, went to Settings and promptly changed that option from email to SMS.
Tried again logging to account from desktop and received SMS with code promptly.
Few minutes later delayed email with verification code finally arrived. 🙂
Posting it here for folks to understand that delayed emails may not be just an Oaken issue.

I used the mail-in-a-form method. Never use online banking so Flinks is impossible. I'm fine with that!(I think I said this recently, but I'm not sure in which forum...)
You can email as well. Oaken does not have a form as far as I know. I had to send a signed letter of direction, void cheque, and a copy of statement showing the account numbers. I downloaded cheques and had to send one with my name on it and a second with wife’s name.

I may have an explanation for your email verification debacle.
Is it possible you are using an email client app. on your desktop with a POP setup. These setups are not real time mail delivery. These mail apps are by default set to check your mail server for mail between every 5 to 15 minutes. knowing that you were expecting an email , you could force the mail app. to "check mail now" button .

Good point, but no. Also, I know the difference between POP3 and IMAP without googling it.
It was a try , a most likely scenario from the info provided. You would not be surprised by how many people don't know POP3 from IMAP.
Had a similar experience a month ago with CIBC . I was on the phone with a CSR and they sent me a SMS verification, three times, to confirm I was the account holder. Never received the verification code. CSR refused to continue. Immediately after I hung up I received the codes on my phone.

I had the same experience as Dean but with a text message coming in Sunday morning at 4 AM. I immediately logged on and changed my password. Then I realized the content of the text message said I had logged on four days prior which I had. There’s never been this long a lag before. Usually, the messages arrive immediately on login, so clearly it’s a problem in their system.

I also had a similar experience with a CSR and a delayed receipt of text message. Thankfully, it arrived in time before I was disconnected from CSR.

I received an email notice from Oaken (Home Trust) early this morning (sent @ 6:03am), advising me that my online Oaken accounts had been logged into. At that time, I was sound asleep in bed. When I checked my emails this morning (@ ~9am) and I read Oaken's email notice, I just about had a Heart Attack ❗❗
Fast as I could, I logged into my Oaken accounts (expecting the worst), but to my surprise I found Nothing amiss! No money had been withdrawn, my password had Not been changed, the linked external accounts had Not been changed, etc., etc. ... nothing had been taken, or changed, and no activity had occurred.
Yes of course, I changed my password right away.
So now I'm asking myself ... "Why would someone hack into my Oaken accounts, and then do Nothing?!", and ... "Was that email notice from Oaken, Bogus (sent in error) ?
What am I missing ... what say you ?
Dean
.
As it turns out ... it wasn't a Notice of an Unauthorized Login that Oaken sent
me early Sunday morning. It was a notice of a Legitimate Login that I made Three Days Prior ❗
Basically, it's the same situation that others have described in earlier posts here. Oaken's security notification system is definitely On-The-Fritz, and can't be relied on anymore.
On Sunday (three days ago) I sent Oaken an email about this situation, asking for an explanation. So far their response has been; 'Dead Silence'.

Some of of Oakens hugest flaws.
Transparency.
Being able to talk to a manager or supervisor on the phone.
And promises (made by them) to call you back. <= zero % of time
These late messages seem to only be received on weekends. Is a high school student running maintenance jobs or not following protocol. You would think some one knows how and why they occur late or in duplication.

Update . . .There's No link in that email they sent me ... and it looks legit.
I checked ... it's the Exact same email notice they always send when I log in.
The mystery remains . . .

P.S.
I sent Oaken an email, asking for an explanation.
But I don't expect to hear back from them, until
Monday or Tuesday.
Well ... it took them over a Week to get around to it, but they Finally responded (with a fairly Milk-Toast answer) . . .
- Good morning Dean,
Thank you for your message.
We are currently experiencing a larger than normal volume due to our recent rate change and this may have impacted the system glitch and delayed notification.
We do apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.
Kind regards,

To be safe, it's probably best we all watch out for this to happen again. In
this (my) case, Oaken's security notice of a login was 'Three' Days Late ❗

That's ⬆ better than 'Days' out of sync (like some of us have experienced lately), but it's still Unacceptable !
Oaken needs to clean the Molasses out of their security notification system, otherwise it can't be relied on.
Am I the only one who has complained to Oaken about this? I hope not.

I got another at 16:46: You logged in ... on 2023/12/05 16:29:52. Better but not great. DUCA's SMS gets to phone before my account summary appears.
BTW... Too much grease ain't good for Free-flowing pipes either ... 🙂

Yet another example . . .
- I logged into my Oaken accounts about four hours ago ... but Still no security notification from Oaken !
Their security notification system is definitely On-The-Fritz. And add to that, hardly anyone (including Oaken) seems to be concerned about it.

I'm creating a list of my logins and notifications that I can submit to them. I'll add a few more today and tomorrow and then send them the list - a documented concern.
