When their Web banking site is under maintenance, on login they produce generic error message "The online banking system cannot be accessed. Please try again later ..."
They also give that error message when user enters invalid login credentials.

Which leaves for me to figure if their web banking is down due to maintenance, or something is wrong with my account.

On top of that, they don't send maintenance notification alerts.

.
That's too bad ... and it's kind of 'Hickbilly', by today's standards ❗

I don't deal with Motive (yet), but I would have 'assumed' they would be better than that ... apparently Not sf-confused

I just tried with invalid login id and it gave "Invalid login. Please recheck your login ID and try again." while with an invalid password it gave "Sorry, the information you provided is incorrect, please try again."

I've only ever seen the "The online banking system cannot be accessed." when maintenance is happening.

Currently they aren't competitive, however over the years they have temporarily had the best rates in HISA's, and more frequently, best rates with GICs.

Might be an idea to open an account or two (savvy savings and normal savings, as savvy savings has a 2 WD monthly limit without fees, while normal is unlimited WD and you can transfer between the two, essentially = unlimited monthly withdrawals from savvy savings after an extra click). In anticipation of them getting back in the game. sf-wink

There are issues with every FI but I think these are fairly minor in the scheme of things, depending on how often they occur I am keeping my account with them. I don't login often, and have not encountered these problems.

Another workaround for the withdrawal limit is the cha-ching chequing account. This gives the added option of using cheques.

Motive gives enough for free that putting up with the occasional/rare unexpected outage is a'okay with me. I know that Sunday morning is generally maintenance so if down then, I know it's fine and to just wait.

I like to think of interaction differences among FI's as their idiosyncrasies. Each has its own advantages and peculiarities, and I feel I can manage with most, as long as their idiosyncrasies are not obstructive, offensive or cost me money.

In the latter category, based on my experience I place EQ and Tangerine. OTOH I have had good experience with Motive on a benefits vs disadvantages basis..until their rates hit bottom, of course, but I too am keeping my account with them, hoping for better days.

There are ways of dealing with Motive stealth maintenance, of course, but that does not make it less annoying.

Motive Motive Motive

All we need is .25% more and you will gain a lot of business

CT Financial pales by comparison but alas all that matters at the end of the day is the rate.

So come on Motive... we know you can do it!!

No thanks, stay away "all that matters.......is the rate" business that leaves as soon as a bit higher rate elsewhere, says Motive!
