My bad. I must have been using a stale link because every time I tried to login to the refer a friend link I was using I just got a blank screen. I just assumed (as I say my bad) the offer had been withdrawn. I just today received an email from Motive advertising the offer was still good until Oct 31.

There is no "e deposit" function in Motive app, so we can't deposit cheques using its app.

Just deposit it into another FI and then do an Interac E-Transfer to your Motive Savvy Savings Account.

According to their FAQ, cheque deposit is by ATM or by mail:

There are two ways that you can deposit a cheque into your Motive accounts:

  1. Using an ATM in the EXCHANGE® network
  2. Mailing your cheque to us with your Motive account number on the memo line and using the address below
