Well ... after almost two weeks of procrastination, I Finally got around to starting the process of applying for my first Motive SA. Once that's complete, some Motive GIC's are also in the plan.
Because we don't have cell reception at our rural acreage, I had to start the application process using the 'Backdoor Method'.
I'm not in a big hurry (and I know these things take time), but I was just wondering how long this process usually takes at Motive, these days.
Thanks & Cheers,
- Dean

Hmmm, maybe ⬆ Departure2591 ... but that 4.10% SA rate @ Motive has been in place for almost a Month now. So if there was a Rush, it's probably long over by now.
With the other online FIs I've signed up with in the past, the process usually took anywhere from one to two weeks.
But with Motive, I have no idea how long it's going to take, especially with the 'Backdoor Method' I had to use, because of the lack of Cell reception at our semi-remote acreage.

Thanks for that ⬆, COIN ... but my situation is quite a bit different.
I'm applying for a new Motive account, with Never having had an account with them before.

P.S.
Six (6) days now since submitting my application,
and I Still haven't heard a peep from Motive.

I sent a form to link an external bank account 2 weeks ago for my newly opened savvy savings account. Heard nothing to-date so I called them today and they were able to help me on the spot after waiting on the phone for a bit.
I would recommend just calling the number 1-877-441-2249 during business hours.

Thanks, Dean. Didn't know there was such a useful forum like this - better late than never
Regarding the phone number for Motive Financial, I also had to call a couple of times to get through. They sometimes make you wait and then just say no one is available and good bye. I tried again 10 minutes later and it worked.
Still think that is the quickest and most surefire way to get this done if you don't mind waiting.
Motive Financial definitely needs to improve this aspect of their service though!

Well ... it's nine (9) days later, and I 'Finally' heard back from Motive (via email) ❗
They want me to complete a 'Declaration of Residence' CRA form, and return it (which is fine) ... but they also want me to complete and return, of all things,
a 'Signature Card' !
Why on earth would an Online-Only FI want (or need) a Signature Card? None of the other online FI's I deal with have ever asked me for such a thing. I didn't think Signature Cards even existed anymore.
Go Figure

P.S.
That's just the first step ... more silliness to follow next week.
Fingers crossed

Motive limits free EFT withdrawals from the Saavy Svgs account to 2 per calendar month, then charges $5.00 for each additional EFT withdrawal.
The workaround is to open a Motive checking account, as there is no fee to transfer funds from your Saavy svgs acct to your Motive checking acct, then you deposit a check into the account you want to transfer to, using mobile banking.
For Motive to validate your check signature, a signature card would be a logical requirement.

To require your signature on file during the opening process is a good thing! Did you not send them your first deposit with a signed cheque and asked to link with that external account as well?
Ha. Stephen beats me to this.
Also, why do you reference a so-called Backdoor Method? How is it different from any other method, if any?

Motive Financial investments are eligible for CDIC through Canadian Western Bank.
Here https://www.cwbank.com/en/personal/banking-services/canada-deposit-insurance-corporation
CWB Financial Group partner companies are CDIC member institutions:
Canadian Western Bank
Canadian Western Trust Company
Valiant Trust Company
Just wondering "Motive Financial client" would have access to GIC under the 3 above CDIC? similar to oaken
thx

That ⬆ was explained in posts #1 & #3. The main/normal method to apply at Motive requires that the applicant have cell phone reception ... which we Don't at our rural acreage.
As for Motive requesting a 'Signature Card' ... No online-only FI has Ever asked me for one before. It seems kinda Silly & Ol' Fashion, if you ask me.
But 'What The Hey' ... I'll roll with it

P.S.
That email I sent to Motive on May 11th
(see post #7) has Never been answered.

Day 14 Update . . .
I Finally received another email from Motive today. Now they're asking for a completed 'Money Transfer Authorization' form and a void cheque (both of which are to be expected), but they seem to be operating on Molasses Time.
At this rate, I won't have an account up and running with them, until "sometime?" in June.
For 2¢, I'd tell them to Stick-It ... I'm tempted ❗
