Never noticed in the past, maybe because I was unfamiliar with their name, but now that I have a Motive account, I noticed they have short TV commercials promoting their 2.8% savings account, in Eastern Ontario during the local evening news.
Have they always conducted National ad campaigns or is this a more recent advertising strategy to gain National attention?

Interesting, Stephen. No, at most, I've seen the occasional Internet banner ad and paid listings in web search results for Motive Financial (which is all I've seen Motus Bank do). That's partly why they've only attracted ~$495 million in demand and term deposits to December 31, 2018, or about twice the size of Manitoba's Achieva Financial. They do remain quite a small player, though it's impressive when you consider Canadian Tire Bank's direct-to-consumer division has about the same amount of deposits as CWB's Motive Financial virtual banking branch operation and they're a Schedule I Chartered Bank.
Cheers,
Doug

I haven't noticed any TV ads either, but I do get a LOT of banner ads.
Perhaps it's a local trial campaign to test results. The marketing industry has certain areas where the demographics are such that they like to do trials there. London, Ontario is one of the places they used to use but I don't know about Eastern Ont.
I fear it may be a sign of lower savings rates to come. Every other FI that has advertised widely has lowered their rates within a few months later, as I recall.
