What is the purpose of this? I don’t think it’s a new rate or promo.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's neither an updated regular rate or promotion.

Cheers,
Doug

If you're wondering why "I" posted this... it's one of better, if not the best savings rate right now.

If you're wondering why "Motive" are offering 2.05% on their savings account, you'd have to ask them.

I am unable to "open" the individual pdf Forms on the Motive site. Everything opens except the individual pdf forms. I have Adobe Reader on my PC but I get an error message. I used browser Firefox and then Edge - same issue. Anyone else have that problem?

I do remember having a problem with these forms in the past. I also got an "error" message. I ended up phoning Motive and a rep emailed the forms I needed to me.

Thanks. I also found the following comment on a site "cansumer.ca" talking about Motive Financial. Apparently Google Chrome won't open the forms either.

"How to link external accounts and transfer funds
To link an external account, you must complete their Me-to-Me Money Transfer Authorization Form which doesn’t open in Google Chrome. It is only usable if you download it and open it with an official Adobe product such as Adobe Reader."

Perhaps they need to update their user interface/site to be more user friendly.

On a different issue, I am not sure why Motive offers 2 chequing accts - there seems to be such minor differences between the two chequing accounts.

I had the same problem. Hate resource sucking Adobe that feels it's their right to take over your system. Make sure it has been updated to the latest version. If it still doesn't open, could be your security settings preventing it. Can't help you with that.
I downloaded it just to get the forms, saved them to my hard drive, then blew it away. My regular reader works on the saved versions.

The regular checking account was left over from when they introduced the Saavy savings and Cha-Ching checking. I think the only difference is Cha-Ching gives you two free non-exchange ATM withdrawals, free e-transfers, and .25% interest rate instead of .6 (woo-hoo!). Didn't bother switching. Imagine one day they will get rid of one of them.

Totally agree but more like wishful thinking, as it appears they employ no computer people.

Now that's an odd statement for me to make about an online bank, until you consider this. They seem to be unable to do something much more simple, that being to change the text on a web page. On their highest volume page at that, the account login page. There, the text about registering the computer etc. is totally wrong, and hasn't been true for at least 8 months (there is no registering that goes on)!

Try writing to them about it, you will get a reply that evades the issue, as I have received several times.

And why did this thread begin in the first place? There's never been an answer to that. No rates have changed, and it does appear in all HISA savings comparison lists here as it always has. Advertising? Are we going to get Bridgewater and EQ posting ads here next? sf-confused

If we want an FI to keep high rates, it means keeping costs down and that means next to zero staff. We should want it that way.

Touching the Login page would involve Central1, since it's the MemberDirect platform. That platform is being sunset and Canadian Western is (seemingly) moving to something else. Spending only what is necessary to keep it going is likely their motive.

They are in the process of migrating online banking platforms, though I don't necessarily know it'll be Forge. It could be something else. That's why they've got the two websites, the old online banking platform and the newer public website on the "www" subdomain.

Cheers,
Doug

The login in page made the "register" button useless when they switched to mandatory 2 stage log in as a security measure. I just look at it as they are taking security as seriously as I wish others did. Don't have a problem with the interface at all...much better than Tangs, EQ or Huberts IMHO. Quit checking the "register" button months ago.

Thanks for the background info about this, very interesting. Of course I receive nothing from them at this time that helps explain it.

I don't mind doing it either, its just an annoyance, looks sloppy on their part after all this time.

I seemed to recall something last year about this, so I went searching e-mail "archives". Found this, from them;

" There was a change made effective October 25, 2019 which prompts our clients to answer a security question each time they log into their account, regardless of whether they register their computer or not. This is an enhanced security feature that has been put into place which may be removed when we change our password format from all numeric to complex passwords (uppercase, number and special character) which is set to happen later in November 2019. "
