A few issues I came across; I'll post regardless of the fact this thread will likely become buried.
1) Plaid doesn't work with Motive from Tangerine's side.
2) Manual external bank linking initiated from Tangerine is broken. Error message: We are sorry for the inconvenience, we are unable to complete your request. Please call us at 18884643232 for further help.
3) Tangerine insists on a VOID bank-certified (stamped) cheque—no photocopies accepted (must be an original ink version) to be mailed. Motive only provides a hardcopy photocopied version. YMMV on whether Tangerine will process it.
4) Motive requires a VOID cheque or other direct deposit information to externally link accounts. This process takes a few days at minimum.
5) Future-dated transfers require manual processing by Motive. While clients can set these up manually, a human processes them about two business days later, with another two days for funds to move.
Some claim to have electronically linked Tangerine and Motive via Plaid by changing their contact home and mailing address on Tangerine's website to an Alberta address. I wasn’t successful, and many others weren’t either. This change may also appear on your credit bureau report and could cause issues later.

I had the same issues when trying to link my Motive account from Tangerine (Plaid not working, manual linking failing with a generic error, calling the CSR did not help either (they ask for stamped documents) - it was clear to me that Tangerine avoids linking Motive accounts.
The other way around though, it was not a problem. Emailed Motive, attached their PAD and a void cheque from Tangerine. They responded same day or maybe next day asking me to call them when the two small amounts show up in my Tangerine account. In a day or two, the amounts were there, I called and they linked my Tangerine account right away.
I had to pull from Tangerine, instead of push - which is actually better, since Tangerine has a low daily maximum for push (last time it was 25,000 - not sure what it is today, as they kept reducing it)
Not sure what the maximums are for push from Motive, but I am not planning to move funds out any time soon.
The only negative experience with Motive so far, is that usually I have to log in twice, the first attempt fails with a generic error. This happens with other FIs (such as EQ Bank) as well, but not this often.

I called Tang. The CSR claimed "some customers" were having problems linking accounts due to "technical" problems. When I asked when the problem would be fixed he had no answer. I do not think it is a 'technical problem'. More likely they don't want customers to easily move their funds out. So far my tests show these institutions cannot be linked manually or via Plaid.
