This afternoon when I logged on to my Motive site to move some funds from savings to chequing account so I can pay my bills. I notice that the site is not showing my savings account link/information. I logged out for couple of minutes and logged back in but still no luck. I called Motive 24 hours support line and told her about my issue. She said she does not have access to my account. She can only help to reset the password and stuff related to that but no technical help. I have funds sitting in my savings account that is not showing on the site. Tomorrow I have to pay bill and my loan payment is also coming out of my chequing account but I do not have funds in chequing account!!!
I am not sure what to so because there is no technical support available until Monday morning. It never happened to me before. Is this normal with these financial institutions? Does it ever happened to anyone else here? I am very pissed right now!

Go to a "The Exchange" ATM to move $ between account may work, alternatively, try to move money by phone.
To answer your question, I have a Motive Financial account before, when it was still call Canadian Direct Financial, and your situation is similar to what I face. In fact, I was told that they can't actually do ANYTHING in the weekend when I got lock out of my account by failing to type in the correct password, and can only reset it on the following Monday.

I have no experience with Motive, but I would be very upset if this happened to me. If they offer 24/7 support, then they should give it.
I use Tangerine occasionally for quick transfers to chequing for extraordinary expenses and have not had a problem yet, but my everyday chequing is still through BigBank. I don't do chequing at any of the other smaller FIs. I regard them as savings only. But I can get away with this because I am a senior and don't pay any fees at BigBank. I do keep a balance there, which involves lost interest, because I don't want to have to make more than one transfer-in per month. Even then, I do that transfer-in at least a week before the first credit card bill comes due, which is the most variable figure. I haven't felt motivated to mess with this system because it works and has a number of pre-authorized debits and deposits attached to it.
Does Motive offer overdraft protection? If so, perhaps you can arrange something there, either for now or future.
If it's any comfort, i have sometimes found that pre-authorized debits don't go through immediately. It's not uncommon for there to be a day or two delay with credit card bill processing. I don't know why. I can't remember which of my credit cards does this as I never count on it.

It could be the branch, where the chequing account is, required one or two business days to post direct deposits and pre-authorized debits. Branch had serviceability code "1" or "2".
That may not be the case now. Many financial institution branches now have servicability code "0", posting within two hours of the three daily cutoff times.

I can only say that it has happened recently (within the last several months) and that the credit card issuer to whom the money was owed said, when asked, that they don't always put it through on the date in question. I wasn't sure if I believed that as it made no sense to me.
FWIW, this branch has been in the same building my entire life.

Do you get free blank cheques from your BigBank? I think all the Big Banks charge for blank cheques, even for seniors.

Long time CIBC customer - NO charge ... with a bit of arm twisting. Having said that, I hardly ever write a cheque from that account ... that account just sees cheque deposits from other FIs; the BB account handles all my bill payments and pre-authorized payments.

The infrastructure upgrade to support two-hour posting (serviceability code "0") was something Payment Canada did in late 2018. It is optional. Not all financial institutions have to provide it and those that do don't have to provide it for all their branches.
Now, if the biller doesn't submit the pre-authorized debits on the due date, then that is a different matter. That's not rare. I remember someone complained to me that their condo fees aren't taken out of their account exactly on the first of the month. Sometimes, the pre-authorized debit didn't post until a week later.
Person had checked the current balance and spent the "extra" money thinking that the condo fee had already been debited by then. The condo fee debit then bounced.

There are some "grandfathered", very old accounts for very old seniors that continue to provide free checks, in my case, that include BMO and TD.
However, I did get free checks from Meridian and DUCA this past year under the seniors benefits.
Getting back to the Motive issue encountered by CDNbull, it will be interesting to hear the outcome of the story, as I've been considering opening a Motive account...but a failure on the website combined with failure of tech support to help resolve the problem does raise concerns.

I just can't believe how out-of-touch people are with their money ergo their account balances.
For me, the whole exercise is pretty clear and simple because I mirror ALL my FI and CC accounts through Quicken - takes like 5 minutes per day.

No kidding!
4 days ago they open my account. Friday Morning I sent funds via e-mail transfer from my EQ account to Motive account. Same day around 7-pm I signed in to my account to pay my bills. I noticed my savings account link were not showing so I signed out and singed back in again but no luck. I called them left a message on their phone. Some lady called me back had no clue about my issue. After this all I am having second thoughts. I still do not have access to my savings account funds. I will wait one more day otherwise I have no choice to borrow some money from my line of credit to pay my credit card bill.

Well, here is recent story. My city takes property taxes from my account on 1st of the month, in pre-authorized debit. If 1st is weekend/holiday, it is posted next business day.
Except this month, when city decided to withdraw January property tax on December 31st.
I had enough funds on my checking account, but I suspect this took some people by surprise.
So, be aware: pre-authorized debit may happen one or two days before you expect it to happen.

I haven't paid for any cheques in a few decades, so I don't know what the arrangement is at BigBank. I always seem to have a good reason why they need to give me some free ones. And i have enough, so don't foresee ordering more.
I am not familiar with the rules at Motive, but it may have been overly optimistic to think that if you transferred funds in in the morning, that they will be available by the afternoon. You may indeed have to use your LOC - and be glad you had the foresight to set one up. Just pay it off asap, and chalk one up to experience, I guess. I still think the phone call should have been more helpful
Alexandre, have you tried complaining to your city councillor? It may not have hurt you but you'd think others would complain. Anything on local media about this?

Canadianbull, it sounds like their web site is messed up and you cannot do an internal transfer from your Motive savings account to your Motive chequing account.
You were able to receive an Interac e-Transfer into the savings account. So, the account does exist.
Would you be able to sign into Motive, try to send an Interac e-Transfer, and see if your Motive savings account shows up as one of the accounts to take the funds from in Step #8 of their following instructions? Maybe you can send an Interac e-Transfer from the Motive savings account to yourself and then receive the Interac e-Transfer into your Motive chequing account? If that works, it may cost $1.50. But, you can file a complaint afterwards to try to recover that from Motive.
Sending an Interac e-Transfer: Step-by-Step
- Log in to your online banking
- Create a profile with your email address and/or mobile phone number, if you have not already done so
- Select 'Send Interac e-Transfer' under 'Transfers'
- Select a recipient or add a new recipient profile, by entering the person's name or business name, plus an email address and/or mobile number
- Choose if the recipient will receive an email and/or text message
- Create a security question and answer that only you and the recipient know
- Add a personal message (optional) but don't include the answer to the security question
- Select an account from which to make the transfer and enter the amount
- Send the Interac e-Transfer (your account will be debited the transfer amount immediately, plus any applicable fees)
Something similar happened to me at EQ Bank. After a web site upgrade, my linked external accounts no longer showed up as one of the possible targets for a transfer. Consequently, I could not push funds out of my EQ Bank savings account. However, Interac e-Transfer still worked and I could have pushed modest amounts of money out using that.

As well, one in a long while, the pre-authorized debit is done twice!
City of Toronto did that in 2017: CBC (March 1, 2017): Homeowners awoke to find they'd had double their normal property taxes withdrawn.
London, Ontario too: London Free Press (July 6, 2017): London property tax processing error leads to double payment for 33,000 owners

Motive has had on going tech problems ever since I opened a term with them. It even took them 6 weeks to set up my online account as they said they ran out of customer bankcards and were waiting for some to arrive.
When I did get set up online and Did a regular electronic transfer they sent me an email that it will be delayed to technical problems!
My links don't show on my Samsung tablet but show on my iPad. In my experience with the banks on this blog, I rate motive at the bottom, and I have 9 banks.

Samsung tablet is probably Android operating system with Google Chrome browser. Apple iPad is iOS with Apple Safari browser.
Could it be a browser specific issue? Maybe Canadianbull would be able to see the link for the Motive savings account using a different browser!
