Hi,
I'm currently getting 2.75% with Tangerine until November 30th and I'm not sure if they're going to extend my promo. I live-chatted with them the other day and they said I have to call back on November 30th. In any case, I'm thinking they will not continue giving me 2.75% on my Savings Account and if not, I will be moving all my funds somewhere else. Would you guys go with LBC Bank or Simplii Financial? I already have a Simplii Financial Account (when it was PC), but I haven't used it in years. I do alot of 'EMTs' as well.
Any input would be much appreciated! 🙂
Kind regards,
Top Dogg

LBC 3.30% vs Tangerine 2.75%
I have account with both but money is parked at LBC 3.30% because of better rate. Â
You will be fortunate if you get 2.75% from Tangerine on new retention incentives - my contacts/associates are now getting 2.4% and 2.5% on retentions renewed this week - and this is on "serious" cash balances.

Canadianbull,
Thank you for your reply. I'm going to call Tangerine tomorrow to see what they can do. If not, I'll be moving my funds out of there ASAP. LBC only covers up to $100,000 though which isn't very much. I'll most likely go with Simplii Financial and top up with LBC.

Why not put your ~$100K into LBC, and ~$100K into B2B? Separate insurances 😉

blahuenga,
Thanks for the reply. That's what I'm most likely going to do. A 'rates supervisor' from Tangerine is supposed to be calling me tomorrow with regards to the rate they can give me. The Customer Service rep. from Tangerine that I spoke with yesterday said on my file it says they can offer me 1.6% for 6 months. I just laughed at that!

I have opened an account and only had one issue: I was not able to initiate linking an external account after hours, but I did it successfully next morning.
Has anyone figured out how to specify a beneficiary for the digital hisa without calling them?
Since they don't have joint accounts I believe that specifying the beneficiary is a good idea - although I am not sure if it makes a difference for non registered accounts.

Question for the folks experiencing systems problems with LBC. Are you using the Google Chrome browser? Â
I use Chrome for LBC access and have no problems. FWIW I purposely use Firefox instead to access B2B to avoid confusing myself about which bank platform I'm on, I have no problems with it either. Neither of them seem to like Opera very much so I stopped trying.
Based on my reading here and elsewhere, most user problems seem to be related to conducting their online activity outside the 8am-8pm window when the Laurentian IT people aren't around and put the site on complete auto-pilot for the night. Doesn't make it acceptable, but it might serve to lower people's expectations of site functionality

Yes. I tried to sign up for a HISA in December but I couldn't get through. I called LBC and they told me there was something wrong with the approval through Equifax and call them. That's what I did, nothing wrong. Several weeks later I got a message from Laurentian to link another bank account to my newly created account (I didn't even know that the LBC account had been set up). My login credentials were rejected, password reset didn't work. I call Customer support twice, apparently I have an account, and they gave me a temp password. Login again failed, error message saying to call Support. Since both representative couldn't help me, they said to wait, there might be a problem with website. But these problems have been going on for week. I am tempted just to cancel my account and forget about Laurentian.

I use Outlook, opened an account and signed in online this morning no problem. The only blip was at the last step, I had to wait and watch the blank screen for about 90 seconds before it came back saying the account was open but I was careful to just wait and not hit my keyboard again while it was clunking away at whatever it was doing. Also made sure to use different email address than for B2B account.
