They seem to be the only (free) cu savings account that doesn't charge for withdrawals. Likely going to sign up when eft becomes available. I emailed them, but don't suppose that anyone here would be will updating this forum when this happens? Unless they reply and give a (rough) date as to when will be avail.

I only am considering them because of they are the only cu to have no fee withdrawals. I usually do maybe 2-3 a month to pcf for free bill payments. So paying $1 per after the first one would defeat the purpose of having a free account :)

Hubert (happysavings) have no fees - I have 3 pre-authorized payments (rent, etc) set up there each month. And I think that now that Peoples Trust has gone online, I believe they are also fee-free for debits.

Hmm. Guess I just assumed they like the rest did have the 1 withdrawal a month free, then fees. Can't see anything about fees on their website. Maybe I will open an account with them.

Do they offer a debit card as well, just in case I need to find a credit union atm if for some reason I need emergency cash? Since only ever keep about $100 balance in my chequing account now.

Thanks for the info.

No, Hubert does not offer a debit card (which sucks) and has no plans to offer this now or in the future despite several requests from me and others.

This is, among other things like an inferior online banking platform, I've chosen to move money to Implicity Financial. Even if Hubert raises rates again (unless it's like a full percentage point higher, or 100 basis points), I'll stick with Implicity. Implicity offers no fees on Credit Union (Acculink) ATM withdrawals too. ATM deposits are held for 10 calendar days (not business days, according to online banking) but if you carry a balance and have been a good, long-time client, you can call them to request early release of the hold. They plan to offer paperless self-to-self bank-to-bank "linkages" "soon". :)

Cheers,
Doug

They are hoping to have it up and running by the end of the summer.

From the horse's mouth. They said july to august. So being safe figured I say by the end of summer...

The old Project Management joke about IT estimates -- take the numeric value and increment it by one, take the unit and increment it by one. Examples: 1 day = 2 weeks, 3 weeks = 4 months, 5 months = 6 years. I've worked on too many projects where this was more reality than fantasy.

When Doug said that Implicity had told him June - July, I read it as "by the end of 2013". sf-surprised

From an email from Implicity today:

"We have been working with our banking system provider all year so that we would be in a position to offer Me-to-Me Transfers to you this fall. Late last week, we were informed by our provider that they are not going to be able to accommodate this timeline. "

and the new estimate is:

"Me-to-Me Transfers continues to be a priority for us here at Implicity and we will keep you informed of any new developments."

So, I sit with a paltry $1000 there cooling its heels. When my PC Financial bonus period runs out which is, if I recall, October 15th or 30th, I am not sure where the bulk of my money is going.

While the timeline delay is unfortunate, Implicity Financial still boasts the best online banking experience (comparable to Canadian Western Bank's Canadian Direct Financial, which uses MemberDirect), tied for highest rates and beautifully-designed e-Statements. As well, while there are still no Me-to-Me Transfers, did you know you can make surcharge-free deposits, withdrawals and PIN changes via any Credit Union "ding free" ATM? That's what I've been doing for now and I've added my Implicity Financial HISA via my HSBC, ING Direct Canada and Hubert Happy Savings bank-to-bank transfer screen of the various online platforms. :)

Doug:

I continue to believe Implicity has great potential but need to wait fro the meTOme transfers to be working. I need the ability to do electronic transfers while I am away from Canada.

Good to see they are still working on it, though, as opposed to having abandoned it completely.

Has anybody heard if Implicity has allowed electronic transfers yet?

Just a question about Implicity. I have an account with Hubert and really don't like their system and for me the ability to use them as a transfer hub is not a necessity. And Hubert rates tend to be on the low side vs Accelerate and Outlook Financial. And it appears that Implicity is more competitive with rates.
My question is.
Excluding the hub feature...who is better Implicity or Hubert?

If you exclude the lack of paperless self-to-self bank-to-bank transfer functionality, I prefer Implicity Financial over a Hubert Financial - bar none. They use the MemberDirect online banking interface and a standardized eStatement format that renders beautifully! Hubert's is rather rudimentary, in my opinion. ;)

In terms of customer service, both are equal and excellent. You also get a debit card with Implicity that includes free ATM deposits, withdrawals and PIN Changes at the Acculink/Exchange ATMs. :)

Hopefully Implicity will get their act together and "pick up the pace" a bit on "Me 2 Me Transfers". I'll e-mail them in a few weeks. I have a suspicion that Oaken will increase their rates by 5 to 10 bps in the next few months and will also launch online banking, complete with self-to-self bank-to-bank transfer functionality. I think they're waiting to launch it all. That will put pressure on the likes of Implicity and Canadian Direct Financial to get their act together. Bridgewater Bank will be left in the dust as an "also ran" if they don't launch online banking soon and, in fact, I may push for their ouster from the "comparison chart" if they don't add online banking in 2014. :(

Cheers,
Doug

Doug:

I updated Quicken for my Implicity interest last night and while on their website wondered when they would get their act together with the Me2Me transfers. I currently have $1000 there as a placeholder and have a considerably larger chunk from PC Financial sitting half idle.

I recently opened an account with implicity but havent done much with it due to no way to electronically move money. I wonder if Implicity realizes how they are limiting growth of the business by dragging their feet. Hope someone from that institution is reading this and pushes the right buttons!

If you get a chance, you might want to e-mail Implicity and explain while you're happy to keep your account there with a very token amount (i.e., $1000), you would be highly likely to move significant assets to Implicity if Me2Me Transfers are still on the tablet and provided they are implemented by, let's say, the end of March. You could ask when they plan to finally implement this feature as faxing an EFT transfer request is not a long-term viable option. :)

Doug:

I worte to Erin this evening but an auto-responder tells me she left on maternity leave Sept, 2013 and expects to be back Sept, 2014.

I then wrote to invest@implicity.ca and will let you know what type of answer I get.

I suspect it will be boilerplate saying, "it is a top priority with us".

Doug:

I received a reply from Kerrie this morning which said, in part:

I had a meeting with our provider on Thursday regarding this, as we are also very anxious to have this service available to our members.

Our goal for implementation is this summer, however there may be issues discovered throughout the project that could push back these dates.

We would be happy to set-up a manual EFT for you if you would like to proceed with your deposit. Your Implicity account is a joint account, so either you or

[your wife]

would be able to contact us to complete another manual EFT to debit your Implicity account electronically if necessary. These transfers take 1-2 business days.

So, summer of 2013 has turned into summer of 2014 and is, of course, subject to change.

I will not be taking them up on their offer of a manual transfer as it is difficult enough for Mrs GS to understand all the finagling I am doing. We had a discussion this weekend about what she would do should I "run away" (or be dead as I prefer to think of it) and are working to crystalize a document that would walk her through a process, step by step, to ensure no balls were badly dropped.

Not sure about CU's not covered by province as it appears BC does http://www.cudicbc.ca
